hey guys, like alot of you know ive been looking around for cars, and i was planning to buy a 2000 Z28 but the stupid guy sold it on me by mistake. so i got my deposite back but he also has a nice 99 camaro with 90k on the V6 and an automatic. he says i can buy the car for $4800 is that even worth it though idk. so here is my real question can these V6 camaros be made fast at all for cheap at all?? also just found out i cant spend 7k on a car and 5k is my limit now so im bummed, i just wont be able to pull of the payments on 7k can you suggest anyother cars in this price range that are good and quick for the money
thanks for your input
IMO....I wouldn't bother with the V6. I would just keep looking if I were you.
Camaro V6=
agreed...no v6 camaro is worth it for speed. if you just wanna say your drive a camaro, and dont care about speed...then go for it. but dont expect much out of it.
as for camaros, maybe an older LT1 camaro like mine
maybe you can find a cheaper 93-97
i searched autotrader in my area, and found a 94 Z28 for 5k, so it might be possible if you look hard enough, but might have a lot of miles
they are very worth it. i have a 97 5sp and stock it went 15.3@91 with a 2.4 sixty foot. it now has headers, ypipe, cat, tuned, plugs, wires, 160thermo, and CAI. it goes higher 14s right now. about 700 total in mods.
yeah they are not bad. if you want fast then Z24 is the way to go. Also RKSport makes a blower for the 3.8 V6. I had a V6 convertable as a rental many times when i had a hook up at enterprise, it was a fun car...read, not exactly balls to the wall fast.....but had plenty of pep and was fun to drive hard. I say go for it, but under stand this logic. My 1998 Z24 with exaust/intake usually pretty much walked V6 Camaro's...not by alot but they were no threat. so i hope that gives you an idea of the type of base H.P. your looking at.

Step-mom has a 2002 V6 auto and assuming there's basically the same we used to have a 98 Firebird V6 5spd. The Camaro doesn't feel fast or seem like it accelerates well but I've never gotten to drive it for fun (parent's were always with me). The Firebird felt like it had a little more power and was funner to drive (note 5spd). The power was estimated at 200hp for the V6 so add in a couple years on the motor and the weight of the whole car and you should be able to figure out what kinds of cars you'd be able to take on stock. Not too sure about the mods available since the step-mom doesn't want her car messed with and we sold the Firebird.

well i can give you my opinion or i can give resources to help you decide
as far as the motor goes
www.3800performance.com
www.cartuning.ca
www.intenseracing.net
cartuning has a turbo kit for the car
the LT-1 makes power but you will have take care of that optispark igntion
with MSD version or you will need to change over to Delteq change over kit
I always wanted a v6 camaro on the bottle my self the motors are cheap to replace
a brand new one from GM is 2700 dollars a used one will probaly cost a few hundread dollars
my feelings on the subjet
there a bunch of suspension products for the car
if you leave the hub caps and find a way to make it fast you probaly be invislble to Law enforcement and no one on the street would even see coming
a v6 camaro is going to be a lot harder to make fast so unless u like the looks of the car and dont care about speed go for it. also i thought u where looking into a gtp? since the new budget is around 5 grand u could find still find a 97 or 98 for that price range. u could sacrfice and get a GT and later down the road get a turbo kit.
A V6 Camaro is like having a sack with no balls... it looks functional but doesn't pack a punch
Why not save up a little more and get an ls1? I'd go at least lt1. 5 grand will get you a decent lt1 car. You can mod the hell out of a v6 camaro but mod for mod the v8 will always be faster... The v8's get about the same gas mileage and the insurance is about the same as the v6, but the v8's have about 100 more hp.
Also the resale on a v6 is terrible compared to a v8.
v6 camaro=parts car
considering the camaroV6's with the performance package , will keep up with mustang gt's
and alot of the camaro 3.8 is shared with the 3.8 in the grand prix and gtp's
plus the added benifit of cheaper insurance
there is alot you can do to them and be fast
granted you gotta spend alittle more to go faster than if you started with th V8
your choice
id say no to about any car that could have the v8 but your getting the v6. my mom has a 94 v6 camaro and she was going to give it to me and i turned it away i hated it. go z28, keep searchin you can find one in your price range dont be in a rush and buy something just to get it then be unhappy in a few days
hey guys thanks for the input i decided against the V6 and am now looking at LT1 camaros as they seem to be in my price range ... i found a sweet white 94 z28 with only 50k on it for $4500 how does that sound, also i was considering the GTP but there is like none in my price range with in 200miles of my house unless i want 160k miles on the car lol so i guess LT1 it is unless you can think of something else lol
also is there anyway to make the LT1 get better gas milage with out hurting the Hp to much? 17/24 just isnt cutting it imho, not to mention the price on premuim nowaday.. its crazy lol every little bit helps i guess so if i could some how get that to like 19/28 or something that be cool
thanks again guys
lt1 all the way for cheap thrill

Defineltly get a V8 for the torque and sound. You won't regret it either.

I had a 97 camaro 3.8L v6 with the auto trans. I had slp intake, 3" flowmaster catback, PI industries 2500 stall torque converter, Comp VS cam, 3.42 gears with lsd and some suspension work. With 245/50/16 nitto drag radials my best run was 14.55@92.66 with a 1.94 60'. I loved and miss that car. I want another rwd with some power again. I would go for it but if you get the auto look for the door codes GU6 3.42 gears and GU80 is the LSD iirc. That will save you some money because you don't really need to upgrade it. Look for one with the Y87 package and the comes with that plus rear disk brake and the apperance package. All the manuals had 3.23 gears but not all of them had the lsd. Goodluck, I have been looking for an 00-02 ss or z28 m6 but around here they either want way to much for them or have to many miles on them for me.

I'm not saying all are the same, but I had a V6 camaro when I was 16 and 3 different major insurance companies didn't even ask the engine size. To them a camaro is a camaro. They figure since you drive a camaro you're going to drive it fast even if its just a V6. Makes kind of since. May not be true but you def. want to check on that before buying a v6 camaro.
=OrangeZ= wrote:auto but still good deal i supose
Don't be so sad. You know with a good torque converter they are actually better for drag racing. Look at the 11 sec camaro's. I'd say 95% of them are auto's.
As for the white camaro not bad at all for the price. Thats low mileage. I was selling my car and a kid was going to pick it up. So I thought I had it sold but found out I didn't need to sell it. I was going to let it go anyways and buy an LT1 camaro. For 5k you can get some nice camaro's.
I'm not sure in your area but in mine if you bump it up to 6k you can get a soo much nicer of a car. Look at 6k cars and try to talk them down a bit. If you can get a much nicer car like I was finding for a few hundred more it may be worth waiting another month or 2 or 3 what ever. Just don't rush. You'll be happy that weekend but in a week or so you'll be pissed you did.
LS1 > LT1 > V6
Youre wasting your cash on a V6.
