stock times for a grand prix gtp?

hey just curious of what the stock times of a pontiac grand prix gtp are? I was on my way to work and when i was about to go onto the freeway, I was waiting at the stop light and a blue 2 door grand prix gtp 40th edition pulled up beside me. I didnt think much of it cause the person driving was old enough to be my dad and his wife or whatever was in the passanger seat. then all of a sudden I hear him rev up so im like ok hes gonna try and pass me up. So light turned green I took up and he did also we both spun a lil off the line then i hit second and got grip slowly I was passin on him. by the time i hit third and kept on it I made it up to about 80 on the freeway then let off cause i didnt find it nessicary to keep going. I looked I hand him by 3/4 of a car length. I know it sounds weird but with the mods if done Im quiet happy with the results. I was told that gtp's run somewhere about mid 15s so that would probably put me just a tad bit faster then him. Im planning on dynoing and going to the track after i get my new clutch/flywheel/team green lsd installed. but I was just curious for a estimate of where im at in the mean time

90% of them will run high 14's stock. The rest will run around a 15.0-15.1

for the most part. it also depends a lot on the driver. they're hard cars to launch. cool that you got him, though.

Andy

it's not how fast you go, it's how you get there that counts.

... Unless you do what my stupid-a$$ roommate did and put a crazy-small pulley on the SC without any kind of intake, exhaust, or fuel mods to support it... then immediately launch it hard as hell down the street and blow the 140K-mile motor before you're even 1/8th-mile away... then you won't be going very fast at all

most around here run mid to low 15's stock , depending on the driver

and the good drivers can get them in the high 14's

alot of the guys here with a 3.4 or 3.2 pulley , and a pcm tune run low 14's , high 13's

wow... are you guys serious? a friend of mine has a gtp and that thing stock had no problems killing my cavalier.

modded, he ran a 14.3 on the stock pulley with intake, exhaust, 1.8 rockers, and a few degrees of knock retard.

he now has pems, 3" downpipe, a dhp powertuner and a few things on the way. i'm curious to see what he'll run this year.

3.5" pulley, FWI, exhaust, stock tuning, and a good launch and i ran a 14.06.

his car is broken. ok, maybe not broken, but something's not right. he shouldnt be seeing KR on a stock pulley with 1.8 rockers. maybe a tune, maybe a messed injector, old MAF sensor, O2 sensor, somethin. but it wasnt running right
with his current mods, assuming it's running right, has a good tune, and with a good -launch, im guessin around 13.7-13.9.

GTP's should run low low 15's high 14's stock. driver error isnt as much a factor because of the auto, but again they're hard to launch, so that's the deciding factor in most of it.

stock airbox is constrictive as hell and has baffles to keep the blower whine down. the things are almost silent in stock form. all the same, it's cool you got him.

he doesn't have any kr anymore... he has a custom tune. i think at the time he actually had a DHP computer in the car(not the powertuner) but it was questionable as it was giving him alot of advance and then kr... so he got rid of it in favor of the powertuner.

he's dropping to a 3.4, trading his rockers for a cam, and has a ported and powdercoated m90 on the way. drag radials are also in the works. possibly an ss intercooler too.

I was going to say those gtp's are real hard to beat even with a supercharger in a cavalier (unless your tuned real good) those pull hard. I have a 03 GT with the 3.8 and those even pull pretty decent. but if you killed it more power to ya.

**changes are here**

the GT has different final drive gearing than the GTP

3:29 vs 2:92 , so the GT will feel a little more pepier on the low end

Id like to see how i would fair up against a 03+ gtp since they came with more power

Well based on some magazines this is what I found:

2004 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP Comp. Group
0-60: 6.6
1/4 Mile: 15.00
Engine Specifications: V6 3.8L 260 hp V6
Horsepower: 260 @ 5200 RPM
Torque (lb-ft): 280 @ 3600 RPM
Valves/Valve Configuration: 12/OHV
Displacement (cc): 3791
Bore X Stroke (in.): 3.80 X 3.40
Compression Ratio: 8.5:1
Fuel Type/System: Gas/SEFI
Supercharger: Yes

But my comment because I have been in the other guys position. I wouldn't be surprised if after he launched and spun the tires that the wife attempted to beat the @!#$ out of him and he gave up.

Good kill though.
