Cobalt SS first in class
Friday, December 02, 2005 10:25 AM
might be old news, but i just read Consumer Reports Magazine ranked the Cobalt SS as best in class. It outperformed the Acura RSX, Scion tC, and Mitsubishi Eclipse in braking performance, cornering, and accleeration. However, the SS did not receive the coveted Recommended rating since reliability information is not yet available.

too bad the new civic si isn't out yet. it probly woulda ownt that too. im just pleased to finally hear positive reviews about GM's small car

you want to start a flame war don't you? 15 cobalt vs. civic posts and you choose to start another. your entire post was cool till you got to the bold part....at that point you decided to make this a flame war topic with your domestic ricer comment.

please God make it stop. Yess that's cool news. but do we really need another "dude, the cobalt is the bomb and i bet it'll whoop a civic" thread? i mean do we? Cause we could just as easily make this a "how bad a new Civic Si could Ownt your Sunfire" post. Best part is it's we could do that and still stay on topic.

Don't be a domestic ricer.

hmmm id say it's the first mag to rate it first

is this their annual car edition? i did't think it was out yet

Out of all the cars it faced , i wouldnt be surprised. Remember guys, this is GM's top Sport compact , against economy cars like the TC , Eclipse, and an RSX.

Come on , if it didnt beat them in all of those, we would have a problem.

not trying to say its "better" than a civic. just saying that in stock form, it would handle as well and out accelerate a stock 06 Si. Yes i know the civic will most likely have better quality and will definitely hold more resale value. Yes i know the Si will smoke my sunfire (especially since im not on the spray anymore).

and stop using the word "ricer"

Yes, it will.

The new Civic Si runs 0-60 in 6.7 sec and a low 15 in the 1/4 mile, compared to the Cobalt SS S/C which runs 0-60 in 6.0 and the 1/4 mile in 14.5.

You do the math.

The TC isn't an economy car... The xA is Scions economy entry level car...

Eclipse an economy car? I let you figure that one out, as well as the RSX...

Everything you have written is incorrect...

Wesman knows this because he owns a Cobalt SS.....Opps.....I mean he is a member on CobaltSS.

It could go either way depending on the driver. The Cobalt driver may not be that good at shifting or vice versa.

I think Jersey was trying to say that, yes a pumped up version of the Cobalt should be able to beat the base models of other brands. If they would have put the Eclipse V6, a tC that is Supercharged, and an RsX-S against the SS, it might not be as good.

Re: Cobalt SS first in class

wait wait.. all this info is 100% wrong because its from consumer reports, and the JBO does not believe in the consumer reports because they are wrong....Right??

Re: Cobalt SS first in class
Saturday, December 03, 2005 4:20 PM
Oh yeah.....MikeGT is right. Since Consumer Reports rated that it doesn't count because they cater to Imports.

Re: Cobalt SS first in class
Saturday, December 03, 2005 4:25 PM
like i said, its a change of pace from the usual consumer report reviews stating "The J-body is a slow, poor handling, poor quality, grocery getter"

.....and they were pretty much correct in stating that. and yes i know that the cobalt is a Delta platform not a J. so go ahead and flame me for trying to say something positive about a GM car on this site. i forgot this is honda-tech.com not j-body.org

So asked for it by starting the flames. Isn't funny though guys how NOW consumer reports is a factual god all of the sudden. Strange how when they declare something garbage all everyone here can do is cry about it and how they're inacurrate. But suddenly they are not? Next time you want to post a "positive thing", and not get flamed by us honda-tech wannabes....like i've ever been to honda tech in my life? leave out the negititave comments like the one i quoted above....and you'll get more respect for showing intelligence in stead of being what you sound like "domestic ricer" and if you don't like the word "rice" don't act it.

Dude, I noticed that too. Funny how when CR backs their opinion, its 100% factual, but when it doesnt it is a biased import nut swinging rag

Im pretty sure the Eclipse, RSX , and TC are pretty much the base model cars.
Did they race the cobalt against an Eclipse GSX , RSX-S , and the TC with the s/c they just released.

Wouldnt that make more sense?

Re: Cobalt SS first in class

theres a post on the same page as this with a posted video of a stock cobalt ss repeatedly running with and pulling away from an rsx-S that had a modified exhaust,

Mitsubishi no longer produces a "GSX"

the tC supercharger is yet to be tested by any independent group. in fact, it was only released a matter of weeks ago

CR mag is no more or less full of it than they have ever been. its only one of many groups who will conduct independent tests on these types of cars over the course of a given year

it wasnt a negative comment. i never said anything disparaging about the honda civic. if you would have taken the time to read my posts in their entirety, you would have known that i stated the civic is most likely going to be better in quality, fit/finish, and resale value. stating that the cobalt would out race a civic Si is based on factual manufacturer specifications. its not being a "domestic ricer."

dont like it? dont read it.

i think we did read it. You did say something disparaging about the honda civic...you do know everybody else can read what you said right? you said and i quote....

JB Bika (slo eco) wrote:too bad the new civic si isn't out yet. it probly woulda ownt that too.
only after you were flamed enough did you come back and change up your tune. Your right the SS is a better car now. but a blown version of the Cobalt was tested against base models of the others. the new V6 Eclipse GT would probaly given a better fight. an N/A tC is not a fair fight...most with a brain would agree that a fair comparo would be with both vehicles blown...and the SC/tC would probably meet or beat the SS. And if were talking about comparing "comprable" vehicles they should be on a level playing field.

The N/A 2.4 SS should have been used in performance testing against the other vehicles. other wise i'm fairly positive boosted versions of all three (Eclipse, tC, and Civic) would kick the crap out of a cobalt SC/SS

Jammit, lets role play here

Im Wesman

What a freaking retard you are Jammit. How dare you use facts and logic to use your point. Im a member of CobaltSS.com (even though I drive a Cavy) so I know everything there is to know about, well, everything. You dont. Moron

Cobalts are the Lambos of Compacts. Not only are they a whopping 1/2 second faster than most compacts, but you also get to keep that cheap dated feel that the cavalier provides. it is really the best of both worlds. Owning a car is not about quality of ride, comfort, features. Its about sheer, balls out speed. Who cares is the dash cracks in half when i go faster than 70, its still faster than yo bucket homeslice

Its better than all of the cars listed. So what if its in its highest form and everyone else was a base model! Its like, if you have a v8 Mustang, and you beat an 87 Nova, thats not your fault that you are the bomb, is it?? Run wit what you brung, right? If we had to go up against boosted imports, wed strap a jet engine to it! DUH!!!

Retards! All of ya!
