Geo's vs Ferrari's

Seriously ... what is the point of taking a useless car and braging that you "killed" a expensive car. I just dont understand it. Can somebody please elaborate on this? And as far as im concerned, the person that "kills" the expensive car, looks even more stupid than the pesron driving the expensive one.

Dont get me wrong, its nice to see a POS car destroy a fancy car, but in the end, its just stupid spending massive amounts of money on a POS, aka Cavalier, Civic, Geo, Fiesta ... ect.

I guess it has to do with the fact that the people who bought the little cars are basically jealous of the big expensive cars and they try to make theirs faster in an attempt to feel better for having not been able to but the big expensive car in the first place.

I think that pretty much sums it up.

eh whatever that person likes.....what's it to you

if you have a fast geo, good for you, pretty sweet and all to have a sleeper like that if you ask me

would i spend that much to make it that fast? no, but you still gotta kinda respect that if they did all the work themselves

If you make a car "nice" or fast spending alot of money, what makes it so much different that a car that has a high MSRP and come from the factory "nice" and/or fast?

And if you have a daily driven Geo that runs 11's, it may be a POS to you, but maybe not to another equal amount of people.

because anybody can buy a stock fast car but not everybody can make a slow car fast...

people mod what they can afford. granted they could save up the money the spend on their car to get a better car but people tend to mod as the funds become available. generally, people that mod their cars want them to display some personality/taste/etc of theirs.

personally, you show me a cavalier/focus/metro/whatever that will out perform a ferrari for even half the cost and you'd have my respect... to some people it's not about the "status" of having a ferrari/lambo/insert expensive car here but rather the performance the car offers.

It's all in the mentality. Most people who have a Continental GT, Lotus Espirit, Maserati Quattroporte, and the like, are generally stereotyped to be rich snobs, snubbing thir nose at regular people. While that may not be true (except for the being rich part), most people feel that way. And alot of people feel better about themselves if they can somehow triumph in some way over someone viewed as "superior" to themselves. For auto enthusiasts, that may be taking your $500 beater, scouring a junkyard, and with less than $1500 invested, commence to leave ZO6 Corvettes in the dust (see also:Turbo Dodge)

For me, the plesasure of beating a supposedly faster car (wether it's more expensive or not is irrelevent) is worth it's weight in gold in the shock factor alone. "That's a Sunfire?!?!?! I didn't know they could go that fast!!!" ect, ect, ect.

I guess here is the way I look at it. If you take a brand new cavalier (only because i know the price) for 20,000 dollars. A year later you add 6,000 dollars worth of engine parts to make it run 12s. What I am basically saying is that why wouldnt you just get a more expensive car, like a GTO or a Mustang or even an IS300 ... ect. Those types of cars have respect.

Urban, By no means am I rich, I am very very far from it, trust me Do I hope to own a porsche one day ... hell yeah! Is it fast ... yes, is it made with respect and pride ... yes, and it its a damn good company that will pretty much bend over backwards to please their customers.

I know what you mean... my dream car is an e46 BMW M3
... and I definitely can't afford one right now. Instead I drive
a Jeep... its far from a bimmer, yet I put allot of money into
it ( bi-xenons, heated leather seats,stereo, etc). I suppose
you're right. If I added the cost of my jeep and upgrades
than I could probably buy a basic e46.

I realize my logic is flawed, but having fun with cars is my
only hobby. If I bought a basic bimmer... it still wouldn't be
my dream car. Moreso, I wouldn't have enough cash to
maintain my hobby. ... AND like I said in my original thread
I kinda enjoy sticking it to the man. I get a real kick when I
pull up behind a bimmer, and the owner has a doubletake
in his rear-view because he can't figure out why a Jeep has
bi-xenons.

In my case, I have to work within my budget without giving
up my pride.... and I think that goes the same for allot of
other tuners. I also understand what you mean about the
20k cav with 6k of mods being worth the price of an IS300.
(a) I think allot of people need a car right away (the regular
circumstances of life), (b) human nature won't let them
leave well enough alone (hence the modding) (c) than they
get in too deep, and they can't walk away from their project
anymore. Once you reach a certain point (in anything in life)
than that something become's an obsession... like owning
a geo that can smoke a ferrari.

sorry if that was a long winded post.

IS300 is as fast as a stock ecotec.....they are not known as performance cars at all, especially for like 30 grand

and by the way, i just bought a brand new cavalier for 10,800 +6000 in all engine work = 16,800 would put me mid 12's to low 13's

what newer car can you buy for 16,800 that would be that fast??? It's just the poor mans way of having a fast car man

by the way im not trying to start a flame war here, just stating pretty much why i respect people with the cheap cars that are fast.

Dont get me wrong, I respect people that have fast cars. Especially when the engine work is done very well. I guess, for me atleast, id rather take that money and pay off bills.

I hear ya man, and that wasn't a flame. You have to respect
people that know how to build cars PROPERLY on a decent
budget.

Even stupid people know how to spend money. Smart
people know how to stretch their dollar. a 12 - 13 second
car for under 20k is a smart expenditure of money if you're
looking for a fast car.

dubduce18s wrote: I guess, for me atleast, id rather take that money and pay off bills.

ok that comment was (in a way) a contradiction. You rather
pay your bills, yet you don't understand why people modify
their cars.... well that's exactly why people modify cheaper
cars... they want to pay their bills AND have they want a nice
and/ or fast car. That's another reason people are driven to
modify cheaper cars. You don't have to come up with 80+K
for a fast car. You can buy a cheaper, and modify it anytime
you have some money to spare after all those bills.

That's how I get 'er done .

I wanted to upgrade to a little bit faster of a platform this year, but with all my current bills I realized there is no way I could mod the new car and I'd never be happy with it. So the Cav stays another season, and more engine mods get tossed onto it with leftover money.

Because some people have FUN working on cars.

I guess the best way to say it is: it's not always about being fast, its about how you got there.

Alot of times its about being challenged; not everyone can overcome the challenge of making a 10k Cavalier run 12's. Doing so brings alot more pride knowing you accomplished something. And in the end it makes you HAPPY (the whole point of it all)

Thats a dumb comment in a way, because they probably are 1) smarter when it comes to cars 2) saved alot of money (financially smarter you could argue)

and I guess one last thing is, not everyone can afford insurance or parts for a BMW with similiar performance of, say, a turbo cavalier (when I say parts, i mean broken parts that u buy from a dealer)
