Im thinking about gettign rid of the J next july-ish and letting my sister take over payments on it.
And after thinking about my target price it around $18k and i'd like to here you guys suggestions.
my guidlines:
1. Definatly no 4 cyclinders.
2. Preferably RWD, not a biggy
3. 2004 or newer.
4. 4 doors are ok, but id prefer 2.
5. Something bigger than a J
I was kinda thinking/hoping 04 goats would be that cheap by then, but who knows.
God I wish that was true I would have a goat next year.
Anyways for that price and 2004 up its gonna limit you on choices with a RWD.
Probably gonna be a mustang.
I cant think of any other RWD for around that price for those years.
Most V-6's are FWD and the new Monte Carlos are FWD too.

i was thinking same thing
With what you are asking, you are very very limited
GTO is about the only car your gonna have to choose from, that and a mustang...
04 gto
you can get one now for about 20k
im sure you can find one for less
other cars, better cars?
you might be able to find a used 350z for around that price... it'll most likely be the base model though...
Grand Prix GTP ? bigger than a J, nice powerful kick in the nuts, although not RWD it's still nice.
by July of 06 you might be able to get a BMW 330I. Not much bigger than the J, but yeah, it's rear drive.
the rearwheel drives not a big need, just kinda hoping you guys might have something i didnt think about.
i dunno about the GP GTP being in that price range for the 04+ but i was actaully looking at GP and i have to say, thats definatly i nice car for the power and fuel economy, ill check on that BMW and 350 too.
id hate to buy and 04 mustagn gt cause its so close to the 05s, which are the first mustang to bring me to the blue oval, but i have recently grown to love them.
thanks for the tips guys, awesome suggestions!
you could possibly find a used 02-04 wrx for maybe like 18-20..i know its a f cylinder, but its awd and lots of fun lol
I say 02 or 03 Audi S4 is the best bang for the buck.. Get one with about 40-50k on it for 18-19k with a 6 speed, bi-turbo and AWD.

Oh, and I have a Cavalier.. Boosted 98Z
^^^ Speaks the truth. lol
I drove a SC 430 the other day and I loved it. You could probablly find one on eBay with an overhaul for 18k. But Im sure its age would bother u. Just an idea

while the audi sounds tempting, i just haven't heard good things about reliablty with them, plus 40k is too many miles for me.
Right now i think im learning towards a grand prix GT, although if i could get a g6 with TAPshift, that would definatly override the GP>
No Man, No.
GT-O.
even though I fist them side ways in every gear, from a roll and a dig, while sipping on a big&tall coke from Wendy's... they are still awsome amazing cars.
And Sappy is right... 04's go for about 20K now... some significantly under.
Definetly a WAY better choice then a Grand Prix...
Was better.
Infinitly Better.

what he said.
just wondering.. why not a 4 cylinder?? you might be able to pick up a used S2000 for that price. maybe a lil more. or maybe a wrx? most 4 cylinders make close power to the AVERAGE 6 cylinder. (ie NOT a supra)
also, i know you said 2004, but for 17k you should easily find a low millage 2000-2002 LS1
Emor8t: the tapshift thing is crap. It doesn't improve performance unless you have a lot of mods and wanted to change your shift points. it only gives your hand something to do, and when i drove one i kept letting off the gas and looking for the clutch everytime i would go to shift.

i despise the s2000, no real power. the wrx is a maybe. you just dont get the power band with a 4 cyclinder like you do witha v-6 or v8.
i believe darkstars said it best in another thread, its not horsepower per liter thats important, but hp to lb. 200 hp in a car thats 2800 lbs, and it doesnt develop power till after 4k rpms doesn't impress me, but 400 hp in a car that weights 3800 lbs and develops power at 1200 rpm does.
I'll beat it into your brain if I have, don't screw up, pick luxury with perfomance. I love my 540i for that reason, but I sure would rather have a 02-03 Audi S4 in that beautiful blue with the two-tone seats.. Mmmm
I guess a question from us should be, what do you plan on doing with this car? Obviously if your looking for a commute with a lil' but of fun mixed with luxury, sex appeal.. God damn it, I am going to go get an Audi... I'm making myself want one.. lol
If your looking for balls the the wall performance and pure durability, maybe Audi wouldn't be the best option. I am sure they are durable, but as far as replacement parts, I know Audi is not very good on their parts costs..
I honestly still can't think of a car I would rather have for 18k.. But if miles are important to you (40k never has bothered me) than your screwed as far as an 04 with low miles for 18k.. It's not easy. No GTO that I have seen for close to 20k has had less than 30k on it or didn't have something wrong with it..

Used 04 GTO.. I bought mine new in January for $23k and some people got them cheaper than that.
