I just saw the picture of the artist rendering of the 2007? Pontiac GTO. I am having a hard time deciding if "cloning" a 1964 Tempest's styling the way to go. I really like new Mustangs styling, but part of me keeps thinking it looks too much like the 1969 Mustang. Mr Ghosn, President of Nissan reply to the question of retro styling by saying that the new 350Z should have certain visual design cues (i.e. DNA) to its heritage, but not look like the past models. Personally, I think the 350Z needed a little more Z "DNA", but for the most part, it is a fresh design. The PT Cruiser and HHR are cool in that they arent actual replica's of any particular model made in the 1930/1940's, although the PT Cruiser has lost alot of its identity due to so many on the road. The SSR and Plymouth Prowler are so few in number, and again, they recall but arent actual replica's of previous cars made. Porsche 911's styling has hardly changed over the 40+ years so it never completely changed into another styling direction then to come back as retro.
The new C-6 Corvette is right on the money on styling in my opinion as it has the visual cues of the old vettes, without looking like a replica of any previous version. I'm thinking that styling cars by reflecting heritage (styling cues) is fine (as Mr Ghosn suggested), but styling new cars to be basically replicas of the previous models I just dont think is a good idea for automotive design. I think Pontiac should rethink the GTO's future styling. Any opinions?

retro styling is gay, leave the past alone and stop raping the corpses of the great car designers
-Borsty
be like borsty, if u want old drive old.
i personally think it's dumb.....
guess alot of GM fans do cuz the SSr never sold well
Depends on the model and type of car. Retro styling looks better on some cars such as the new Mustang and HHR however if GM builds something similar to that GTO drawing it will freefall into extinction faster than the Aztek.
Retro is gay and from a design point leaves you with really no where to go. What are they gonna do with the mustang now, do they KEEP doing retro or just make a modern style? They're gonna have to do modern, and all that retro @!#$ ass mustang did was slow down the progress of the stang.
To an extent its ok. Kinda like the JDM thing. But taken to extremes its stupid just like the JDM thing.
Semper Fi SAINT. May you rest in peace.
What about the stylings of the new charger?..I think they should looked more into making it look more retro..it looks like a 300c trying to be aggressive..I love what they did with the mustangs..they gave it some of the retro characteristics yet left some of the newer body lines in it..

They could always progress from the retro 60's style... to the really cool mustangs from the 70's!
<please note the sarcasm>
Similar downfall designs happened with the T-Bird. I would hate it if they tried to do a late 70's T-Bird 'retro style'.

so in 2020 they should have the 1980s style stang back
lol
other cars, better cars?
New Mustang is a badass car. ive seen multiple versions of that car(very versatile)
Bu i dont think car designers are moving to retro for styling cues but more of a bold look. If u notice most american cars are moving to a very beefy loook.

have to disagree there, i don't think the new vette looks anything like the old ones, in fact i think it looks like the new viper from the front, pretty lame on GM's part if you ask me. sure it looks good, but only because it looks like a viper
