Car is a Pontiac Sunfire 2005 4 door sedan, no option what so ever. Automatic transmission. Bone stock time (dealer ---» drag strip) of 15.921 @ 87.159. I've got 3 runs in the 15's and all the rest were flat 16's. Stock Goodyear Conquest, stock everything so we can call that a good performing auto Eco.
Mods on the day of 05/06 :
GM M62 S/C Kit
RKSport Upper Engine Mount
RKSport Lower Engine Mount
BF g-Force P215/60R14 Drag Radial
RKSport Front Strut Bar
RKSport Rear Strut Bar
That's it, that's all. No suspension work, stock exhaust line from A to Z, not even a CAI nothing. The only power mod is the GM S/C, and the only other mod that can help to improve your times are the engine mounts mixed with a good pair of 14" Drag Radials.
This is what I was expecting : 14.7-14.8 @ 95 mph
First pass, normal launch at 2500 or so on the foot brake. I check the board and the 60' lights up with 2.113, I'm saying to myself "great the car looks to be hooking". I pass the 1/8 mark and I get a big time surprise there, I'm expecting a 9.40-9.45 that would match a 14.7-14.8 pass....what I see is a 9.185!!! At that point I'm thinking this is for sure an under 14.50 pass, which is wayyyy better than my expectations. I come back and I finally receive my slip, 14.467 @ 95.246. Right there I would of been happy with that and just leave on the spot. I did 6 more run (7 total) and here is the resume.
Run #1
60' : 2.113
1/8 : 9.185
1/4 : 15.467
MPH : 95.246
Run #2
60' : 2.130
1/8 : 9.217
1/4 : 14.526
MPH : 95.142
Run #3
60' : 2.175 (missed my launch, felt the DR spin a good 2-3 turns before grabbing)
1/8 : 9.318
1/4 : 14.643
MPH : 94.695
Run #4
60' : 2.105 (best 60' of the day, was really aiming at a 2.0x but couldn't pull one)
1/8 : 9.190
1/4 : 14.460
MPH : 95.617
Run #6
60' : 2.129
1/8 : 9.195
1/4 : 14.473
MPH : 94.966
Run #7
60' : 2.145
1/8 : 9.262
1/4 : 14.561
MPH : 94.883
So you're saying to yourself, "hey liar, I only count 6 runs total why was Run #5 skipped?"
Well answer is, we simply always kept the best for last....and Run #5 was big time that.
Run #5
60' : 2.133
1/8 : 9.060
1/4 : 14.244
MPH : 96.497
Yes, I almost fell on my ass when I received that slip. This was beyond my expectations, a huge 0.500 second better. Alot of people came to see me after watching the car pull 14.4 run after run, with close to no engine/exhaust noise while racing and a BS looking stock exhaust tip at the back!!! And when I was telling the car was automatic their faces looked big time
. Many questions were asked and people were educated in the end on the Eco potential.
Respect was gained from a MazdaSpeed 6 & SRT-4 owner and many others in the process.
All in all my best and most fun day at the track by a mile. Temps were between 9°C (48°F) in the morning & 15°C (59°F) in the afternoon with a beautiful sunny sky.
My next mods are as follow :
Cobra heat exchanger with intercooler pump
Tokico D-Spec & Tein S-Tech
LSJ Cobalt S/C pacesetter ceramic header
Magnaflow high-flow cat 2.5"
Custom 2.5" full exhaust line
After that it's done for the season, next season we might be looking at a pulley change and a good HPT tune. So this is it, hope you enjoyed the reading folks.
Sunfire 2005 Automatic - GMPP S/C + Motor Mounts + Drag Radials - 14.244 @ 96.497
Good times, those DR's had to have been a big help in getting those times.
15.2@89mph 2.171 60ft. 9.830 1/8 R.I.P. "LULU"
Nice sleeper. Temp outside had to help a lot.
so whats those times in american numerals?
neat to see a 4 door sunfire
Damn thats a sleeper!
Nice runs and nice 60' times. I was surprised at my 60' times last week when I went to the track; had consistant 2.2's in my auto 2.4 with a few bolt ons and sh***y street tires.
Thanks boys, it was a big surprise to me to pull low times like that. Really satisfied with the GM S/C kit, great bolt-on.

not bad for an auto not bad at all!
get some more mods on there and really rip it up
That is the ultimate sleeper
I love it
1989 Turbo Trans Am #82, 2007 Cobalt SS G85
hehe, yeah and soon I'll be lighting up the board with a 13.xx pass while looking just like your 1 out of 1000's stock Sunfires out there. Then you'll see people's faces go
big time!
Sunfire 2005 Automatic - GMPP S/C + Motor Mounts + Drag Radials - 14.244 @ 96.497
wow sweet times man cant wait to see after you get all that stuff on the list
For real, I had no clue pulling 13's would be so easy to do in the auto version and the blower. Almost with only the heat exchanger setup installed more I could possibly hit the 13's. We might be looking at a mid 13 sec car for next season!
Sunfire 2005 Automatic - GMPP S/C + Motor Mounts + Drag Radials - 14.244 @ 96.497
Thanks everyone, I will update you guys as soon as I return and I'll tell exactly what's new in the mod department. I think this is giving hope to all the automatic owners out there that think a 5 spd will always be a mile ahead because it's really not. Some 5 spd out there with the GM s/c can't even clock a 14.2 like I did. First 13 sec timeslip will be sweet like hell.

You went to Napierville or Sanair? I found Napierville faster than Sanair. Still, good time on that Sunfire. I'm hoping to see that J run this summer.

That was napierville... if you want to see his car be there on the 27th, we'll probably both be in the 13s by then
14.083 @ 99.746 mph GMPP s/c intercooled on drag radials.
I can't be there on the 27th. I will go to Napi at least once this summer.
I go mainly to Sanair since it's only 45 minutes from here and Napi is 1.5hour.
