Newb Sunfire Help

Sorry I F*cked up my last post and couldnt delete it so here it is again.

Im new here at j-body and this is my 97 sunfire gt 2.4L 5 speed manual. I've had the car for a few months and done some very minor stuff to the exterior (shaved Sunfire Emblems, shaved GT coupe wing). I've included some pics just wondering what you guys think should be my next step. I've been looking into some lowering springs and that's probably what I'll end up doing next.

Looks like a nice clean slate. Lowering would be my first move then some nice wheels.

Agreed! Just make sure you when you lower it, you do it properly the first time.

Personally (and coming from someone fairly new) I started with audio. If its your DD and you like music then you'll want that..

then I went seats, hood, soon to be interior and rims. IMO i'd start out with comfort items then something that makes ya happy when you look at her.

like i said thats just my opinion

I've done the audio, just a pioneer deck, amp and 12" sub basic stuff. For lowering are new struts a must or can I just go with some lowering springs or coilovers?

struts are HIGHLY recommended. Check the Suspension forum . a lot of good info in there

If you want the best possible ride and don't want to be blowing the stock struts every couple months, than yes they are definitely a must!

well if your looking for something to spruce up the car and be eye-catching i would suggest painting your interior. takes about a day maybe two depending on how tedious you are, and only costs a couple of bucks. at the same time it is definately something other ppl will notice. (just my opinion)

Please don't paint the interior. You will end up regretting it. Trust me, I know from experience.

Yep. That's exactly what happened to me when I had my first Sunfire back in the day. I painted a bunch of interior stuff blue. Later on down the road I ended up hating it and I had a hell of a time finding replacement pieces. You will eventually regret it, so save yourself the time, trouble and money and don't paint the interior.

Yup, I got a complete, running donor car for my manual swap, and just used those interior pieces to replace mine. and I still need sail panels and door panels. It sucks. It all will peel and chip easy. NOT worth it.

used a good cleaner and oil/grease/wax remover first. i used same paint and cleared coated ump-tenth times, great results. its all in the prep work. btw i never told him to do it, merely offered a suggestion. like i said before its preference.

It just makes a car look really cheap and tacky IMO. From his description of what he has done so far, I'd hate to see him ruin the cleanliness of the car by painting the interior.

I think from the replies I'll probably stay away from painting the interior. This site has been great to me so far, for the week or so I've been on here I've: Removed the tuner tube from my engine and installed a K&N filter. For any other newbs looking at this check out http://www.teamforwardmotion.com/tfmtech/j-body/index.php. I was referred to this site from a member here and this site has a ton of great mods and how-to's for jbody cars.

Good decision to avoid the painting.

It sounds like you have a great start on your Sunfire. Keep it up!

#s 2,3, and 6 under the performance section are not worth it.

Shortened my stock shifter 2" and installed new knob. Lots of fun drove it around all night. Interested if anyone else has attempted to remove the intake resonator. What performance gains can I expect to see and are they worth it? Thanks

The only difference removing the intake resonator will make is the engine may sound a tad louder. You won't feel any incredible horsepower gains or anything like that. The only real reason for removing it is because it's useless extra weight. It probably weighs about five pounds.
