RSM 59Mm Throttle Body Misconceptions

Okay, Newbies Galore, Behold for I bring great wisdom

It has come to my attention that many of you are more than willing to shovel out 400 bucks for their Throttle body.

Let me forewarn you.

This is the exact same throttle body that they have been selling for a while now. They just jacked the price up. Way up. I believe it used to rest in the vicinity of about 180 or 200 bucks, correct me if I'm wrong.

Many may think that a throttle body will provide a load of horsepower, This is not the case however. The throttle body will effectively move your powerband up slightly, and provide a few more horses than Stock, But won't benefit without a Full exhaust system and would benefit even more with a Built Valvetrain...

My personal opinion on RSM's throttle body is that it's Highway Robbery. It is waaay too much money. Even if you are looking to get boosted or what not. I just see it as too much money.

For those of you who want a slight upgrade to your throttle bodies, I reccomend Using some form of the 56mm throttle body swap, or even boring out your current throttle body and using the throttle plate from the 56mm TB you can have a reputable shop put something together for you...

I'm looking at you 2.2 guys who want to upgrade their throttle bodies.

In short. 400 bucks is a @!#$load for what the throttle body provides on a near stock motor. I suggest searching around for other means of digging up horsepower. Maybe a good header back, exhaust setup.

Seeing as the people who tend to go out and buy expensive parts thinking they provide huge horses tend to read these posts (I don't mean this in a bad way at all) I'm just trying to let you know what you can expect for that 400 bucks.

Not much on an NA Car.

Bit better on a boosted car....

but 400 bucks?

Think about it...

If anyone finds an error in my post feel free to correct it, or me in general. I'm just trying to watch out for the people who may be led to believe that buying this incredibly expensive part will provide massive power gains on a stock motor, when it won't do much on a stock motor.

Jesus (the spanish version), that's alot of money.

Well people don't realize how velocity plays effect to alot of your bolt on modifications and that there is such a thing as "too big".

Bigger throttle bodies n/a don't yield you that much power...I know from personal experiene.

I back you up though Inari.

RSM are a bunch of thieves. For far more reasons than just the price of their TB's.

I highly advise everyone against dealing with them at all.

i couldn't agree with you more. i bought an rsm 59mm tb for my 97 2.2 a few years ago. i installed it, and no gains whatsoever. it pretty much killed what ever low end power i had. so needless to say i sold it, got almost what i paid for it too.

because when you can't sell a lot of items at a low price, enough to pay the bills for example, you try to sell a few at a high price. That and they're idiots who are losing all their credibility around here.

I used to race cars, now I race myself.

Seriously. What they did with me is peanuts compared to how badly they screwed SunfighterGT over! And that was completely avoidable and nothing but ineptitude on their part!
