I was wondering what would be a good short shifter, i saw a couple but they where in the range of 400 canadian, i found this one at cosmoracing.com for 100 bucks, anyone have experience from ordering with these guys or know of a better place? they have to ship to canada ups/express

if your only doing it for the short look, just cut your stock shifter

i thought you cant cut the stock shifter? as it has the reverse pullup thingy, thats atleast what most peeps locally i talk to are saying? i shouldve probly metioned its manual my bad

i figured its a manual, all you do is pull the stock knob off, and you can just pull the lockout off, its stupid anyways, just pull the plastic lockout off, and the spring, then cut however much you want off the stock shifter and put the knob back on, or get an aftermarket knob.

i have the B&M shifter myself, but i disabled the lockout because i think its stupid, i have never ever come close to putting the car into reverse unless i meant to

after you remove the knob (twist and pull works best), and remove the boot (just unsnap the 2 snaps, grab at the base and pull back and forth on the base, it will remove), there is nothing holding the lockout in place, just remove the spring that sits under the knob, and slide the plastic lockout from the stick, reinstall the knob and boot and you now have no lockout

see, the lockout works like this

coming off of the shift lever housing is this tab, thats half of the lockout, the other half is on the stick, its the part that you remove, on this part on the stick there is a tab, when the lockout is down, when you try to shift into reverse, these tabs touch eachother and you can't put it in reverse, its like holding a broomstick horizontally and trying to walk through a door, it doesn't work. when you pull up on the lockout the tab on the stick goes over teh tab on the shift lever housing, allowing the shifter to go into reverse

when you remove teh lockout mechanism from the shift lever, there is noting stopping it from going into reverse. honestly, the hardest part is removing the knob, sometimes they get a little happy with teh glue and its hard to remove

and once the lockout is gone, and the boot is gone, get a tool with a cutoff wheel, (dremel, drill, air grinder) or a hacksaw (not reccomended becasue your arms will be sore for a while, thats tough steel to saw through) and cut off what you want to remove, then either install a new knob or your stocker

oh and if you want it real short, only cut off in like, 1 inch or 1/2 inch increments so you don't cut too short, just cut, test, cut test, till its where you like it, you can take away from it, but not add to

yeah i was going to go just 1 inch shorter as currently my face plate of my dvd player sticks out, and i hit it almost everytime i shift, thats the main reason i wanna lower it, and maybe the cool lower look, lol does it even do anything?

no, the only way to really make a true short throw shifter is to shorten the part before the pivot point and lenghten the part after the pivot, cutting a stock one only makes it shorter before the pivot.

now it will make the shifter feel more firm because there is less material, and it does make it seem to shift faster, but it really doesn't make a difference, but it looks good, and its good to do until you actually buy a short shifter, but with those ranging at just a tad over 100 bucks, if i had to do it all again, id just cut mine

but yeah, if its hitting your dvd player, definatley cut it, don't wanna damage teh dvd player

no, it only makes a diff if the bottom part, after the pivot ball is longer, and the upper part before the pivot ball is shorter, but you get the idea

B&M is the best for the money. They've been in the shifter business since before we were all born. They cost more but they're well worth it.

Semper Fi SAINT. May you rest in peace.

I just put a Fidanza in my car. I bought it from a seller on ebay for around 80 including shipping. I had to remove the reverse lockout collar from the shifter because it was hitting the opening in my center console. I like it.
