I just bought an ecotec engine(swap questions)

I currently own a 2002 2200 auto Cavalier

heres my car domain link if you would like to see it
http://www.cardomain.com/profile/crda_jbody

I have been wanting to make my car stickshift for a couple of months now and came to realize it's a pain in the ass to do.

and if could be cheaper and easier if you just buy a hole other engine and swap it

So today i bought the complete ecotec 5 speed with all the wiring and everything
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7993669409

theres the ebay page i bought it from this only cost me $875.00

Anywho.

I was wondering when it comes time for me to do the swap is there any problems that I might run into?

or do i have weld new motor mounts?
and do I have to change all the wiring aswell right?

one last question will i have to move my exhaust sine the headers are diffrent

That's a nice purchase you got there.

I think the swap is basic like any other swap...like most people say, the wiring will be the hardest part.

If you need mounts, might as well purchase aftermarket ones...I have them on my ecotec and they are sweet. You can get them @ www.carcustoms.net.

Yes, you have to change the wiring.

Does this come with the computer from that vehicle also? If not, you need to have one specifically from a 5-speed ecotec otherwise you can't hook it up.

Does it come with all the shifter, shifter cables?

Also, you'll need transmission mounts...if your going to get some, might as well get aftermarket ones...also from the above site (I believe they sell them).

you should only need to change the wiring in the engine bay since you have an '02, that means the BCM gauge cluster all inside wiring stays save for your your auto tranny stuff.

bottom motor mount is the same, upper will need swapped out, auto tranny mount will need to be removed, both tranny mounts will need welded in, you can get them at a dealer. the tranny swap will be your biggest challenge at the end of the day.

the only change to your exhaust will be be cutting out a section and moving it back so you can reattach it to the new manifold..

I'm pretty sure your life will be easier if you get the radiator out of that car too. the reason is that the main connectors for the Eco and the 2200 are reversed. the one up the other down, and vise versa.

so let me get this right

the only thing that i really need the change are the mounts on the transmission besides swithcing everything including the wires

how hard is it to just custom weld ur own mounts
Re: I just bought an ecotec engine(swap questions)

yeah but if your there too then theres one more

don't forget that the top motor mount is different too, but you will have that in the car, and it shouldn't be all that hard to weld them in.

if the donor car runs, couldn't you just make it a project instead of swapping? just an idea
Re: I just bought an ecotec engine(swap questions)

nope the car was fliped over

roof is messed up, i don't even want to try to fix that

that hold in the roof isn't suppose to be there that isn't a sun roof

no seats no doors no nothing

and it has some extreme body damage to the driver side panel

The wiring is not that big a deal. When you pull the ecotec out, leave all the plugs attached. You should not have to seperate tranny from motor either. You already have the plastic gas tank I do believe so you wouldn't have a need in swapping that.

Obviously don't forget the pedals. You will need to drill the holes for clutch into the firewall as well. Instead of buying new transmission mounts/brackets you can also reuse the mounts from the donor car as long as you know how to weld properly.

I can't tell in the picture about ABS. If you have ABS and the donor car doesn't not, it's likely you will loose your ABS.

why would he loose his ABS ? the engine is a different system.

If he swaps to the donor vehicles braking system it may not have ABS. When we swapped mine, I went from ABS to non ABS.

i was thinking it wouldn't be an issue because it's already a 2000+, the thing that would most likely differ to my knowledge is the brake booster. everything else you would have to change.

and since the wrecked car didn't do so well, you might want to keep what you have, lol

What you should do is basically swap the whole engine bay. swap over the engine cradle, rack and pinion, power steering, etc.

If you do this the trans mount will be right due to swapping the engine cradle.

I work at a GM dealership so I know that this would be the easiest way.
