New Project car: 03 ecotec cavalier

Hello everyone. I am new to the forum. I heard this is the place to be for tips, swaps, help and know how on the cavalier and sunfire.

I just got a 2003 Chevy cavalier with a 5-spd, it has the xm sat radio package, its a black coupe, keyless entry. It's pretty nice, but I want to make it better.

I have about $1500 to spend right off the bat, and instead of starting on wheels... (mine have the 14" steel w/hubcaps) I actually wanted to start with simple engine mods and such. Then I want to work on the suspension, and get a nice tire/wheel package, probablly used.

So how should I start? Whats tried and true? Where is the best place to start on the ecotec?

if ur looking for mild mods first, you should check out intake, exhaust, header, short shifter, these are all nice bolt ons that will make your car a bit peppier, if u wanted to go a little more into it, you could check into a larger throttle body, maybe some motor mounts, performance cams etc.
or u could always just slap a turbo on it and have some fun.

id get an intake, header, 2.25 inch exhaust with a 30 inch resonator, b&M shifter, then some good struts and springs. kyb agx struts with h&r springs is a nice combo, then rims and tires if you have enough left.

then again, a nx wet kit is fun too

With that $1500 you can get yourself a decent exhaust system and intake. For more tips, check out the Performance forum.

I would suggest starting with:

1 exhaust
2 intake
3 header (not if you plan on boosting it)
4 motor mounts
5 then suspension ground contol makes some good coilovers for the cav

Good Luck!

for 1500 bucks exploitedracing.com has a do it yourself turbo kit that you can buy. If you have somebody that can cut & weld the stuff up for you Id suggest that. But thats just me =)
