RKCavy 09 Progress Thread
Friday, April 10, 2009 4:42 PM
I guess this is my first official progress thread (should've done it a couple years ago). Here's how she looked as of Monday:

And the inside

Got a new steering wheel about a month ago; Grant Fibertech. After a trip to Ohio on Sunday (and a stop at the Summit store), I picked up the install kit and got to work.

Sorry I didn't get more install pics. I intended to do a write-up, and just forgot about doing pics. Here's the final product

and an awesome JDM angle so you can see the purge cable. Grant makes it REALLY difficult to wire those damn buttons.

My Ohio trip also got me a new project

Finally switching to the Type-Js. No more fender flares! And thanks to blkcavfire for the awesome deal.

Also spent some time under the hood to clean up the spark plug wires. Got a wire separator kit and cut the wires a little shorter.
Before

After

(Just ignore the messy valve cover)

C&C more than welcome. More updates to come

Nice! The red interior is a bit much for me though. But the exterior looks great.

Love the hood/typeJ combo! Is that a cobalt ss/sc wing back there?

Luis: Grant 1132. It's the Fibertech wheel with adapter #3196.

Carbon Cavi: That is a Cobalt SS wing. It's from a 2006 to be specific

As far as the interior, I have considered a carbon fiber trim kit. I think that would break it up a little, but for now I have other priorities. Gotta get the sides painted/on and I am looking at a new carbon fiber hood for this summer. Maybe an invader or evo. Not sure yet

Very tastefully done, nice job!

So, it's been a little while, but I have some quick updates. Car goes to paint on Tuesday, for the skirts and to fix a stupid dent in the rear bumper I got last year. I will post bunches of pics as they come next week.

Here's the stupid dent

I also picked up some bigger jets for the nitrous, and a little safety feature for my bottle. Hopefully soon I will get a blowdown tube to go with it as well. (Sorry about the blurry pics, may camera is sucking big time right now.)

I also picked up some stuff to work on my trunk setup with. My intentions are to foam-line the floor and sides of the trunk, make cutouts for a ps2/controllers, carpet the foam, and hookup the wires to the Eclipse in the front.

It's only a start, but at least it's progress (cuz that's what this thread is supposed to be, right?).

I wasn't originally a fan of those flares, but the rear alone doesn't look so horrible.

The big thing to me is I do somewhat like the sides, with the Type-J sides it'll look like every other Type-J car and I never liked covering that swooping line on the rear quarter panels. I'm guilty of using those sides too and that line is the best line on a j-body IMO, so why cover it.

I'd rethink it, maybe keep the sides you have and remove the rear flares if possible, but totally your call.

Im going to be completely honest here the interior is just to red for me, but besides that it looks great (it still looks better then my car). Keep up the good work

Joe - I'm replacing the side more because they are in rough shape. The fiberglass is creased and the body shop never fit them right. There is a gap at the front fender I could almost fit my finger in. I went with the type-j sides: a. because the will look good (though they will look like lots of other cars) and b. because they were only $50

everyone else - I know the red is too much. As stated before, I will be doing some carbon fiber stuff this summer, but I have other priorities right now. The door panel inserts and lots of little pieces will be carbon before the summer is over, but I need a couple other things first.

Thanks for the c&c. More pics today after I do some engine bay cleaning

So, it's not quite done yet. I just got too anxious and decided to post the progress so far.

One last pic before she gets torn apart

After the breakdown

The hazards of fender flares

These are the screws that the last body shop found "necessary" to hold on my sides

Here is what it looks like after a "legitimate" body shop fixes the gaping holes left by said screws

Rear bumper fixed

And these...

Will soon be on here

And one jdm angle, cuz even when she's hurtin', it still JDM as hell yo!

That's all until tomorrow. The skirts were mounted up after I left, so I didnt get a chance to get some pics. I will post the finished product tomorrow.

wtf? is that one stage paint?

howd they 'blend' the screw f' ups and such without doing the entire panel and do it RIGhT?

I believe it's two-stage paint. They intended on welding the holes closed, but they didn't want to risk any of the interior work. It's essentially just filled, based/coated/cleared and saned/buffed. It turned out looking better than stock.

Hes talking about the fact that you generally clear the entire panel even if you blend the color. I can't beleive the last shop left those screws like that. Talk about a hack. I like the look your going for. Your 2200 looks a lot nicer then mine. lol. Those plug wires look 100 times better shortened up. I had to do that with the accell ones I got as well. I'm a little confused about the foam trunk deal, but it sounds pretty cool. Keep the progress pics rolling.

Yeah, the shop that did the body work the first time around was a joke. I was younger/dumber and went with the cheap shop because I could afford it. (Good thing they aren't in business anymore!)
As far as the trunk thing goes, I plan to lay a piece of foam on the floor, cut out a spot for a playstation/controllers, carpet it to match and hook up the monitors. Nothing too crazy, just enough to finish it off.
I will post the pics up tomorrow of the finished body work, but also more on Friday. A Memphis rep is coming by to look at my enclosure and help sort out some problems. I'll be doing a little rebuild from the inside out on the box. Many pics will be had there as well.

It's finally done! I am very happy with the finished product. I'll let the pics do the talking

Before

After

And here is the start of my trunk project

It's 2" Foam Board. I just cut it to fit the trunk. I have the ps2/controllers to add in yet, plus carpet and run wiring. I'm tearing the sub enclosure apart tomorrow though, and didn't want to fill the trunk full of stuff. That's all for now. C&C welcome and appreciated.
