ok ive posted about this before just trying to get this all straight..
ok ive got a 99 cavy. and im wanting to swap a sunfire dash into it.
heres the list so far:
actually you need the metal frame too
the door panels
metal frame
dash structure
A/C tubing
Dash pad
any small items like glove box lid and steering column cover and fuse cover, hvac/radio bezel etc
now when i do this do you think i can take my cav's dash to the junkyard and trade? saving me money. and around how much do you all think this will cost.
also, do i have to remove the steering wheel when removing the dash?
^^^ yeah i figured that out after i read my chiltons manual last night..
im guessing that the dash's are the same in coupes and sedans correct?
why?
fires dash's are so ugly.. compared to cavys

i like them better too, plus i heard they don't rattle as much, and aren't as prone to cracking (someone correct me if i'm wrong)
i was gonna do the dash swap but decided to keep the cav dash. i just need to replace the part the goes up against the windshield. i got that infamous crack down the center that alot of people seem to get.
Ok i need some help here ASAP, I also have a 99 z24 cavalier which im currently swapping the sunfire interior into,
Now, ive got everything in execpt the insturment cluster and upper dash pad, my problem lies in the cluster, the connector is different between a sunfire and a cav, so i went to the junkyard and clipped an automatic tranny, manual odometer one, and my cavalier has a digital odometer cluster and is a 5 speed. I tried to splice the harness from the sunfire into the cav wires, but there are 3 wires coming from the sunfire connector that dont match up with any colors on the cavalier wires, which has 4 missing wires missing a home. If anyone could help me out it would be much appreciated!!! thanks,
i was gonna do the cavy dash swap but im too lazy. haha
I love the 03+ sunfire interiors, they are awesome.
i have a 2000 sunfire and the dash rattled like nuts just like the cavy u probably should sand the plastic on plastic points as mentioned in another thread worked for me

Thats a personal opinion...just like I dont care for the Cavalier dashes.
I dont have much problem with rattling in my Sunfire. And as far as cracking I have never seen a Sunfire dash crack where I have seen a ton of people with cracks in their Cavaliers.
my car wouldn't run with a manual odometer i think u have to keep the same type
update---
the dash is in.. just having problems with hvac and cluster... the cluster doesnt fit at all, also for anyone else who has done this how did you run your hvac cables?
i read about the dash swap you did and im interested in trying to swap out my dash from my 00 cavalier to a dash from one of the 2nd gen eclipses and i was wondering what exactly u had to change to actually finish it if u could write me back n let me know id appreciate it,
dude that is gonna take soooooooooooooooooooo much work to swap an eclipse dash you might as well just buy an eclipse lol, not worth it IMO.
Are the Newer Fire dashes able to fit in the Older model Fires? I was thinking about changing mine from a 02 to a 03+ if possible.

The infamous cracks down the middle of the far part of the dash only happens because the screws holding it are on too tight, loosen them up whenever you get a chance and it won't crack.
smh... why don't you just buy a sunfire..

one thing u might want to remember too guys- the 03+ dashes protrude into the door panels, which are dished out where the panel and the dash meet. i started mine tonight, but i dont have the metal framework- you really need it too. mine is in, with a good bit of cutting. tomm will be running some wire and making 2 brackets for the swap. im not sure if the older fires dashes do the same. its been 7 yrs or so since i got rid of my 96 fire. just a warning, if it helps.
95-05 Sunfire dashpads (top piece) are the same...only difference is the 03-05 have round vents and yes the dashpads are interchangable.
i'm new to this forum and well to cars all together, but i'm a fast learner. and i'm just wondering if any of you guys know if the factory gauge cluster in the 96 sunfires have a coloured bulb behind which emits that ugly off orange, or is it the plastic on the gauges it's self. Because i'm getting a deck, amp, and speakers for christmas, and whil i have my dash off i would love to put in some blue LEDs to lite up the dash. but if it's that plastic that's orange, anyone know any sites that sell blue emitting gauges that would fit my sunflower. cuz honestly i can't find @!#$ at any sites, they always say they carry 96 sunfire parts, but they never have clusters. any help would be appreciated, thanks.
