Im just curious how rare the side airbags are for the 03+ cavs.
Mine is the only one ive ever seen. If it makes a difference in in Canada
Pretty sure they were offered only as a dealer package, not normal production.
This is new to me can you post up some pics
Sig thanks to bxmobkrazey on gmscf.com
Most people never paid the extra cash for them. Most cavaliers that received them were loaded automatic cars.

They are seat airbags. on the outer side of both front seats. But whether or not they ALL came like that....I don't know.
2001 Cav Sedan LS - Work In Progress - Sunalier Status
And this is from Edmunds:
What's New for 2003
The Cavalier gets a refresh this year that adds new front and rear fascias, revised headlights and taillights, redesigned ground effects, body-colored mirrors and door handles and a new hood. LS Sport models also get integrated foglights and new rocker moldings. The 2.2-liter Ecotec four-cylinder is now the only engine offered, as the Z24 model has been dropped from the lineup. Base model Cavs no longer come with standard ABS brakes, but it remains an available option. Inside, the Cavalier now features a center rear three-point seatbelt, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift lever, a rear 60/40-split bench seat, new child-seat anchors
and optional side airbags. Finally, you can get XM Satellite Radio on all cars, and LS and LS Sport trims are available with the OnStar communications system.

Surprised mine didn't have it I always thought mine had every option but Automatic, guess not.
these should have been standard when the 3rd gen first were introduced.
Indeed.
One of the reasons I bought my car was the added safety of the side airbags. Just not something you come across often on these things
My 04 lss has side airbags, but my 05 lss.doesnt

Wonder how hard it is to add these to a 3rd gen without.

most likely pretty easy for the 03-05 cars... maybe 2000 and up... but 1999 and under will most likely be a challenge... 1995 even more. lol
I assume they're BCM controlled then? Oh well no luck for my 98.
i dont want the air bag in mine is it possible to swap my airbag steering wheel on my 99 cav for an aftermarket without airbag without the on board computers going crazy or something ?
Your comment has nothing to do with the SEAT airbags.....but here:

1) you will need an airbag simulator (google is your friend -- http://www.airbagsystems.com/simulator.html )
The airbag sim will allow the SRS system to think the driver's side one is hooked up, thereby making the passenger one function as normal. Without the sim, if either the driver or passenger bag is unplugged, the other will not function. The SRS sys will think there is a fault in one of the bags and disable the other.

no they wont be BCM controlled they will be air bag modual controlled just like every air bag system in every car. you would need a modual that can trigger 4 bag i would assume the standard modual probably would cause an issue car would have to be setup for it
but why you would go through the work to install the bag in the seat is beyond me
JBO since July 30, 2001
My 05 has them. I really dont care to much weather they are there or not but its an insurance discount so I'm a fan lol
Also its not loaded. just power seats. no sunroof no power windows fe1 suspension
Power seats?? Ive never ever seen a j-body with power seats.
Power seats have been in JBodys since the 80s. My 91 vert has power seats. My 89 z24 also has power seats. My 89 didn't come with them I pulled them out of another 89 at the junky yard. They were an option you could pick. Cost was like $1200 for the option same with the curtsey lights under the dash. Not all of them came with them.
On the inside my car looks like a fighter jet.

Ive yet to see a 95+ j with power seats. Havent herd any one with factory installed power seats in a 3rd gen. prob died out in 94 with the v6 cause they have been in js since the 80s but stopped in the mid 90s lol.
