the reverse lockout is only there to prevent you from going into reverse on accident while your moving foward. wouldnt really benifit you in any way besides not having to lift the body to put the vehicle in reverse.im not sure if you can put anothe knob on there because the base of the shifter is made for the factory knob if im not mistaken. you could probably hack the top part ot the plastic casing and be able to keep the lockout with the new knob but would probably require minor modification nothing to hard though but i think there is a spring on there to keep it from sliding freely under the factory knob.the center console there are 4 screws there are two inside the armrest area, 1 under the romovable plastic piece in the center and 1 by the very front under a little plastic cover that you can pop off with a flathead or something and just lift it out. this is all assuming your car is standard by the way.

your welcome. no i dont know anyone that has done it before the only thing to do is wait for another response. i replaced my factory one with a b&m short throw shifter a couple years ago and it still has the lockout feature built with it.

You dont even need that reverse @!#$ just pull off your old knob and take out that reverse mech. and put on after market knob of choice and adjust your shift boot to it accordingly

The reverse lockout sounds great. But its nearly impossible to mistake 4th gear for reverse. Even if you did. The insane amount of rev-matching that would occur (if you could even get the shifter muscled into reverse) would alert you enough to push the clutch.

I put a b&m shorthrow in my 05 and was concerned at first, but seriously, its no threat.

This is what I did when I put in the short throw shifter.

Can you put an after market knob on the stock shifter since it's not threaded but just pressed on?

I suppose if it had a larger hole and a set screw it could work.

Removing the center console is easy. Open up the armrest lid, look down, there are two bolts there. Then the power windows switch, pull up on the entire housing, there is another one there. Finally, at the front of the console in front of the cupholders, there is a little cover that you can pop out with a small flat head screw driver, and there is your last bolt.

Once they are all removed, unbutton the shift boot, pull the ebrake up, and carefully start lifting up. With a little finesse, you should be able to pull the entire thing off.

And as for the reverse lock. As mentioned it's really just an added safety precaution, the car already won't really allow you to go into reverse until you have went over into first I believe, so you should be more than fine removing it

ok. thank you for the help with the center console. but i have a question. once i break the tab..then what? does it just pull right off? and how much force is needed to take that god damn shift knob off! I mean jesus christ! lol

Once you break the tab then you no longer need to lift the lock to get into reverse. Leave the plastic thing on and just don't use it.

Once you can't pull any harder, pull a little harder and it'll come right off.

I had to cut mine off of my 03. There was no way i was pulling the thing off. Just take some side cutters and cut away.

Damned things.
