I recently purchased a 2003 sunfire cluster with a tach. I wanted to install this cluster in my 01 2200 Cavalier, that does not have a tach. The person I purchased the cluster from, said it was taken from a wrecked sunfire and the battery was dead. Everywhere I looked, this was a simple plug and play procedure. When I installed the sunfire cluster, I noticed that everything worked, signals, all lights, seatbelt and DRL's. However none of the gauges or odometer work. When the cluster is plugged in, it activates. There is no "Theft System" light and the car starts everytime, so I dont think it is a "Passkey" problem. I have tried disconnecting the fuse, as some suggested, in an attempt to reboot the dead cluster. I have also heard that the cluster may have to be recalibrated to my BCM, which can only be done at the dealer, thats fine if it works but no one can provide me with a definite answer to this problem. I really hope someone can help me with this problem as I have read so many different ideas and tried so many different ideas and nothing seems to work. I hope someone knows how to fix this problem or did I get a bad cluster. Any ideas would be greatly apprieciated.
It appears you have a bad cluster. I went through a few before I was satisfied. I have a 00 Cavy with a 2200 and a three speed tranny and I had the basic cluster (no tach) then I got a Cavy cluster with tach and the mileage did not show, so I got another one; it showed the mileage. After a few weeks I decided to get the Sunfire cluster and it is awesome (plug and play). So I think your cluster is a broken POS.
Yes thats what i was figuring. At first I was thinking it was an electrical issue, cause the computer wasn't recognizing the cluster, but then i started thinking it was the cluster itself. I don't know if I should send it out to be rebuilt, or if I should try another cluster. According to GM Parts Direct, a new Cav cluster with a tac is $95. I had bought the cluster online, and believed the guy when he said everything worked, but now I am reconsidering the purchase. I don't want to keep buying clusters, I might just send this one out to be rebuilt if I can find a good place to send it. Thanks

ill sell you mine for even cheaper with a garrantee that it works.. or your money back lol
I was talking with a buddy of mine and we were playing around with the cluster. We got the odometer to come on, but still no gauges. We tried "hitting" the cluster but nothing seemed to work. Is there any problems or things we can do to make the gauges work. The computer must be recognizing the cluster to display the mileage but the gauges do not work. Any ideas?

I forgot to add that the "Theft System" light DOES NOT stay on at all. The car starts everytime and does not stall either so i dont think it is a passkey issue.
