looking at the Trak Lite 1.0 17x8
Saturday, February 16, 2008 10:36 AM
I am looking into this wheel and I could not find if anyone who is using it had any fitment issues, 17X8 45 offset
I am also planning on 225/45r17's on them I think, just wondering if they will look good with that size tire on it.

does it rub anywhere?

I tried to search a little and came up with very little,

I know the tire can physically go in the wheel, I ma just wondering if it looks stretched at all, something I don't really like.

if anyone has some good pics of the wheels either on or off their car that would be great.

thanks for all who reply.

Cheers Steve

I know Darkstars has traklites on his Cav. Straight from his profile:

# flat black 17x8 Motegi Trak Lite (14.x lbs each)
# 235/40/17 Falken Azeni RT-615s

taken from another thread in this forum..... about 8 inch wide wheels with 45mm offset

FYI for anyone reading this...

The wheels in my sig are 17x8 with a 45mm offset running a 235/40/17 tire, they physically bolt up to the car with no problem. I have Koni yellows with Ground control for suspension so the stock spring perch is not there, I don't know if they will clear are not on a spring/strut combo (as opposed to a coilover setup). The only other thing I want to add is tire to fender clearence... I have Toyota fenders becasue they flare out more then stock... as you can see from the pic the extra clearance is nice, you will need to roll the fenders at least if you plan on doing any hard cornering.

as for the wheels, themselves, I prefer the "same old 5-spoke" but for an 18x8 they is pretty light. I didn't look at the price because I have no interest in buying them but they definetly sound promising.

heres some pics to.... both of my cavs have 17x8's...... the traklites on the tan cav have 235's, the Rotas on the silver cav have 225's no stretch

thanks Darkstars, exactly what I was looking for, I knew you had them, but I wasn't sure what the clearances were.

being 45 offset, they are very close to the struts so they should tuck in as good as can be expected I think,

have you had them on without the toyo's on?
and if so do you have any pics of it?
I am planning on getting the toyo fenders so they will fit a little better and look different, but I don't know if I will get them before I plan on getting the rims and tires.

I have a guy that comes into the shop and he imports cars into canada from japan, so he said he could get parts for me and I didn't have to pay the shipping(so sweet for me)
and he was going to try and get the same color so I would not have to paint them either.
(and likely the mirrors and tails too, hehe)

I just need to get the funds for the wheels and tires, and try to decide what tire size to get.
it is a DD, so I won't need anything to crazy, but I do want it close to factory size.
initially I was wanting 235/45r17's, but that will be a little too big I think,
so now it is either 225/45r17's or the 235/40r17's.

now the toss up, 225's would look ok, and fit ok, and be very close to the right size,
but....
the 235's would look very nice and may give better grip being a wider tire(not always I guess), but they will be a tight fit until I can get some toyo's,
and they would just be nice to have a huge tire under there, but it is a little smaller(diameter) than the factory tire.

so what to do,

any suggestions?
yes I know that went on and on and on.

cheers Steve

Sorry to butt in, but where did you get the Rota's? Slipstreams right? Are you happy with them?

17X8 with 225/45/17 Falken Azenis 215s. No rubs with Toyota fenders that have rolled lip. No rubs on the Tokico Dspecs/Sportlines. I never tried them out before the fenders however.

4th pic shows how dangerously close the fenders come. This was when on Ground Controls and Koni yellows also.

I only have the pro kit, so hopefully it should be ok.

not worried about the back at all so that is good, but it will be a little close in the front, nothing too bad I think, I need to borrow one of my friends wheels to see if it is going to be a problem or not, I think it is a 17X7.5 with 225/45r17's and a 40 offset, so it will sit closer to the suspension and maybe a little farther out, but not by much.

I do think toyo's will be a good thing if I want to do some auto-x in the summer(should be fun)

probably going to have to roll the fenders though.

Qwik How did you roll your fenders, did you just use a bat and a hammer?
I heard it helps to heat it a little with a heat gun just so the paint will flex a little more as it is rolled.

any suggestions?

thanks
