255 or 275's on the cav? what rim width and offset

Hello all, Im interested in running 255 drag slicks up front of my cavy. Before you flame, yes i do have the power to warrant it (320wheel hp/tq and climbing) anyways these were going to be my street setup and possibly running some steel wheels upfront for slicks when at the track.

But my question is, what width of rim and offset do i need for this and do you think it would work? I know there is a guy or 2 on here that has the 18x8.5 with a 32-35mm offset. Would my best bet bet except in a 16 inch rim? Main clearance issues would be the front spring perch and i suppose also the rear or front of the wheel well when turning. Im not worried about them sticking out to make it look too wide upfront, i may do some sort of custom fender or something. At the track i dont care about full lock to lock so my only clearnace issue would be the front spring perch. I also plan to go to coilovers which would also allow more clearace fromt he tire to the perch.

my main problem is i dont have access to a bunch of different tires and such, maybe i suppose it could be figured out from the stock wheel offset and going from there. anyone know a 2000' z24 stock rim offset? they are 16x6.5 correct? Also what is the widest tire a 8.5 rim can accomidate, i doubt id be able to get 275's on upfront and not scrub from lock to lock correct?

any advice appreciated.
