There are things called torque sticks as well, they go on the end of an impact gun. No matter how hard you rattle that impact gun, it will only torque it to the specified amount on the stick. I use them everyday at work.

100 is what we torque Cavvy wheels to with the stick. You could even go 110, it won't hurt it.

nothing really uses 100 lbs-ft. personally, i prefer the torque wrench cause i can set it to what ever the hell i need it set to. the only thing i can really torque on my cavalier with my wrench is the front wheel barring. i think its like 180 lbs-ft and my wrench only goes to like 160. thats when i borrow the ones from work that do like 250

how do these torque sticks work exactly, it just looks like a socket extension

the torque sticks kind of have a ratcheting mechanism in them i think, just like an impact gun. the torque stick will tighten the nut up to the maximum torque capable by the stick. once that maximum torque is reached, the shaft of the stick will just sit there and ratchet, meaning the torque stick will keep spinning but will not provide any torque to the part holding the nut. the nut just sits still.

I torque all mine by hand. Seriously... is this too much work for people?? It takes less than a minute per wheel!

As mentioned, 100 ft-lbs is proper for factory lugs and any wheels that use them. I use 90 ft-lbs for tuner lugs.

I must know, what are tuner lugs? Are they like mad tyt3 JDM overnighted from Japan parts?

tuner lugs are a very thin lug nut. they are good for fitting in tight spaces that some aftermarket rims have for installing the lug nuts.

if you see weasels sig there, he has after market wheels. also, his wheels are a multiple bolt pattern wheel. im assuming his wheels are 5-100mm and either 5-4.5" (114.3mm) or 5-115mm. for the manufacturer of this rims to be able to accomodate having multiple bolt patterns on a rim, they usually have to make the hols for the bolt very very small. so small that a standard nut wont fit in there, so a tuner lug needs to be used.

there are multiple tuner lugs available. there are standard tunner lugs (at least thats what i call them) that are just a hex head on them. these are usually accompanied by one that has a lock nut tunner lug.

then there are tuner lugs that are pretty much all lock nuts and have a long adapter type for the locking key for the lugs.

some examples.

plus, they add 10 WHP / nut. and its wheel horse power because they are attached to the vehicle @ the wheel

They are thin-walled lugs designed to fit in the smaller holes found in aftermarket wheels. Typically they come with a "key" that fits in the end of the lug to turn it, or a special socket that fits over splines on the sides. The latter tends to be more durable.

Err, I wouldn't do that if I were you. I used to do that, even though I was warned against it, and I'd always have at least one stud shear off the next time I took the wheels off.

Thin-walled lug nuts, jackass.

Don't worry, 2 other people already told me. I think I have it figured out already, thanks for the elaboration.

Although they aren't thin walled, the sockets for them probably are though.

Nice comment at the end, typical person on JBO. Can't take a little humor eh? Just go throw some JDM parts on your american car and call it a day, tard.
