I have some 17x7 rims and now im buying tires. Which would be a better tire size for the rim -- 215/45/17 or 215/40/17? I have a really good deal on some 215/40 tires, would that be an ok size for my rims? Thanks
nope, they'll look bad. go 45.

they'll work but
1) it will look like it sits alot higher up than what it does
2) your speedo will be off
3) your odometer will be off
heres what it will look like:
mine are 205/40/17. I'm changing to 215/45/17 over the winter. I got mine cause it was agood too but the tires suck.

I don't consider this "working". Sure, you can fit those tires on the wheels... but that doesn't mean they work with the car.
Stick with the 45 series. They work.
