Other Size Tires for Stock Rims
Tuesday, September 20, 2005 11:23 AM
I need a new set of tires for my stock 16" rims. I was wondering if I could go with a more low profile tire, because with the stock tire size (205/55/16), the tires sometimes catch the fenders. I wasn't sure if this was a good idea, or what else was an option. I was thinking something along the lines of a 205/40-50/16??? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

You could fit them on the wheels fine but your speedo will read faster than you are really going.

That... and they'll look completely retarded, like you've gone and put Aveo wheels on it or something.

Stick with the right tire height. If they're hitting the fenders, fix the problem.

How do you suggest I fix the problem?

You're hitting fenders from suspension travel on stock tire size?

How low did you take it?

And if you didn't lower it, then you've got other problems, like the springs majorly sagging...

Also, make sure that you have the correct offset (don't remember what ours is, something like 35-42mm, correct me on that one).

If you ARE lowered, apparently you're REALLY low (more than 2" lower at least, or with really really soft springs and blown struts), but one thing that may help is rolling the lip of the fenders up, and maybe even removing the plastic liners so you have a little more clearance.

In any case, if your rolling diameter changes (i.e. using 205/50 or 205/45/16's) your speedo and odometer will both be off. Fixing your ride height would make more sense.

Sleeper style, they don't see it coming that way.

As in my profile, I have the car lowered on Eibach Sportlines and Koni Yellows. I believe they are something like a 1.7" front drop and 2.2" rear, at least somewhere around there. I know there is absolutly nothing wrong with either of these, I purchased them new earlier this year.

I think rolling the lid of the fenders up would completely solve my problems, I just don't know how to go about doing this. Could anyone possibly help me out on that? Also, I have no problems with the stock 14" rims, its just when I have the 16" z24 rims or my 17" ADR rims on that they sometimes catch when going fast over a low dip. (interstate with bad roads) Thanks for everyones help.

Mine doesnt catch on the top of the fender, but on the inside, particually the left inside of the fender when i turn the wheel from stop to stop.
