i am hearing lots of different stuff so far i am going to go with 225/45/17 ,just hope it don't rub on my stock 96 cav when turning(sharp)there on brand new 17's *will be* but just want a few opinions what you guys think.myself i dont think i should have a problem,but........?
Greg
as long as the offset of the rims is correct you'll be fine, i have 225/45/17s and my rims have a 45 offsett (if i remember right) and i have no rubbing issues

ic 35 offset is the width right....? so you are saying i should go with 225/35/17? if theres such thing just evrything is stock and just won't to make sure i get exacly the right tire for a 17X7 rim....thanks alot
Greg
DEAR GOD NO!
You want a 215/45 or 225/45
225 will be a little taller, 215 will be a little shorter
but do not go for a 35 series!
yeah, a 225/35/17 just sounds bad, 225/45/17 is nice, seems to me to be a perfect witdth for a street driven J

225/35/17 will f*&^ up your speedo and odo readings. +35mm is the offset of the wheel. That's how far the hub is from the centerline of the rim.
Now for the original question- I'm running 215/45/17s on a 7.5 width wheel +37 offset, and it looks tight, handles tight, doesn't rub. BUT, I got too close to a curb and now I have this really neato texturing on my rim. The 225 will let the tire stick out a little further than the rim, giving you protection against that. It will also give you a slightly wider footprint. I plan on going with 225's when I replace these tires.
You didn't mention the width of the rim you're using, though- that makes a difference too. A narrower wheel (say 6.5 or 7) might make the rubber stick out TOO far. On a 7.5 or wider (absotively posolutely on a wider) though I would definately recommend the 225 series.
I may not be the sharpest crayon in the box, but at least I'm a pretty color
yes,it is a 17X7 rim and by the sounds of things 225/45/17's are the best way to go,i do want to protect my rims to,just want to make sure no rubbing problems occur.
if you dont want rubbing problems, to be safe and still have everything read accurate, i would go w/ the 215
yea,but i do want to protect my rim,you know what i am saying i want a good tire that will protect it,but 215 and 225 that's just the height differnce right..?
Greg
like i said, im runnin a 17x7 rim with a 225/45 tire and have no rubbing issues at all, it looks great and handles great, i would reccomend that setup to anyone
