Hi.
My 86 convertible w/ 2.8l v6 is having transmission problems. It doesn't shift right into third gear, it slips and doesn't pull at all, the engine spins like in neutral. 1 and 2 are fine. So no highway for me. Two places (trans shop and local fixer) say the trans is dead and say replace it.

There are some 1st and 2nd gen Cavs for sale around me. Are there any requisites involved with taking a good 3 speed auto from one of them and sticking it in mine? Are the 2nd gen's different? Or, can a 3rd gen 3T40 or 4T40 (ooh, 4 gears - and E? I'm confused) fit in my 1st gen? Or are all the 3 speeds the same? I don't know anything.

Also, if there are any tricks to try and revive it, that'd be nice too. Poured transmission fluid in but that didn't do anything, so maybe it's overfilled now. Halp me.
