would putting the car into that first gear and going up as a manual would do hurt your car? I've gotta 4 speed 05 cavi and I've heard from one person that doing that could hurt my car... is this true.
no point. WOT will make the car shift at 6k roughly
but it seems like it shifts when u want it to shift... u roll off first and shift it into 2nd whenever u want so it seems like it's getting a lil speed... maybe?
The main advantage to starting off in 1 or 2 is it turns off traction control. Also you can hold 3 gear longer because it will shift out of 3 too soon. Now all of this can be changed with tuning using HPT, and then you can leave it in drive.

where can i go to get hpt?... so i can tune the shift time.
It's $500. And..... www.hptuners.com of course.

I shift a floor mounted auto, only because im used to driving a manual. It keeps me sane.

I have an OLD B&M pro ratchet shifter. More for the fun of it, but it is funner to drive while drag racing. You slap it forward from 1st to 4th.

As you start making moderate changes (mechanical and tuning wise), then the peak horsepower and torque rpms change and you'll need to adjust the shift points.
Sorry Jack I dis-agree. On a stock 2.4 the tranny shift's ay too early out of 3 gear(RPM wise).

Mine shifted about 6500 stock.

Never really driven or played around with an auto J, but shouldnt it always shift around 6 ish as long as your foot is to the floor? Do these fancy electronic trannys have kick down cables? maybe his isnt working.
I too have been looking to "override the trans" so to speak such as a shifter kit for my AT Cavi. So far I have my car tuned with HPT at the shift points I prefer as to the dyno chart, but I don't want to have to keep retuning the trans every time I change my power curves from mods... and I'm not swapping for the manual trans, the AT I have now handles a beating and has since day one I owned the car. I mean it still RIPS hard into second and squats hard into third gear. From 1st-2nd my speedo jumps from 37-44mph because of how hard she bucks.
Personally I love it because everyone is always amazed an AT can do that. HPT is a great invesment though if your looking to tune the motor and the trans in my opinion. If you're just looking to get a little more out of the trans however, go with the B&M Shift Plus. Easy fix.
