I bought a centerforce dual friction and stock flywheel from a friend of mine who never got around to installing them on his car. I was just getting ready to put them on mine, but thought i would ask around and see if this is the best one for my car, or if maybe i should sell these and get something else.
does a lightened flywheel help that much? and are there any down sides to them?
i see alot of people use the SPEC, but i also hear alot of bad things about them.
all my mods are listed in my profile... i am soon to be adding a team green LSD to the mix as well.
let me know what you think.
(ps the cars spends its life.... 98% on the freeway, 1.75% city driving, 0.25% racing. but 100% of the time i ride it hard)
i couldn't have been happier with my centerforce DF. i dont have the one that centerforce generally sells though, does your's have pucks on both sides of the disk?? mine does.... the ones people usually get have pucks on one side and a solid disk on the other.
centerforce told me it would hold 300whp just fine, well.. i never got that far but it held up beautifully for n/a. now... the first one i had was the one with the pucks on one side and the solid disk on the other, it to held up very nicely and stuck around for over 90 passes at the track one summer. the only reason i had to get a new was because the center imput shaft carrier deal wore out and chattered on the shaft. it was actually pretty bad, you could move the clutch back and forth about an inch while it was sitting there on the shaft. but if it wasnt for that problem it would have been just fine. the second clutch never had that issue, but it only saw about 5000 miles.
oh, please dont get a spec/fidanza flywheel, they are no good.
Rollin' on question marks since 07.
I would go with a Spec clutch and Fidanza flywheel set-up.

I would avoid a spec/fidanza flywheel.

Me too .... ON THE 12th OF NEVER!!!
I have a stock flywheel and do not regret it all. After seeing Paul tjepkes 170ish whp cavy shred the center of 2 of them on street tires I was said screw that. Just make sure you have the new to you stock flywheel resurfaced if it has been used. A resurfaced flywheel is an absolute must.

does no one else make a lightened flywheel?
also, is there a difference in flywheels from 98 to 2002? the guy that i got the flywheel off of had a 98. i know they used different trannys, but i assume the clutch and flywheel would be the same...
is there a way to "lighten" a stock flywheel?
and what about throwout bearing and the other clutch related hardware... i just got the clutch and flywheel from this guy... what other things should i buy to go with it when i put it back together?
98 had an Isuzu trans and a different pressure plate than the Getcrap uses. The flywheels are different. I have heard that as long as you used the same flywheel, disk, and plate combo it didnt matter what trans was used with it. Im not 100% on that as it is just what I have heard.
Flywheels and clutches are different between 96-99 and 00+. When you re-surface a flywheel you are leightening it (just not a lot). Seeing that your car is a 02 I would use what it is suppose to have. I would also get a new TOB.Slave which is not a cheap part and most clutch kits come with new.

You will notice that the trow out bearing is on the end of the slave cylinder. It is all one peice. I think they are a litle over 100bucks. I would replace it if I were you since it is inside the bell housing.

I am not sure if you are aware of this Ken but fidanza actually makes the flywheel and the spec is nothing more than a relabeled fidanza. The spec rep even came clean about it on here.
As far as I know that is the only option for us 00-02 guys someone please correct me if I am wrong.

well if you have an izuzu your in luck because unorthodox makes one. unfortunately they DO NOT make one for the 00-02 getrag.
didn't rk sport used to make aluminum flywheels?? i know they dont sell them anymore but you might be able to find one somewhere?? idk, just a thought.
Riddle me this... riddle me that...
I have a lightened stock flywheel. 10 lbs ftmfw and all the strength I want without the stupid issues of the SPEC/FIDENZA units.
Also, Spec clutch? Never again.

RK's were made by Fidanza as well.

ah, didnt know that. i was wondering if maybe that was the case...
chris- how the hell did they remove enough material to get a stocker down to 10lbs and still make it work?!
