I am stopped because I can't the tranny open. I have the tranny out and want to install an LSD. All the bolt are out and the 3 snap rings. It will separate about 1/8 of an inch but binds up there. Any thoughts?

Near the output shaft, there is a metal seal cover that need to be taken off. Poke a screwdriver through it and pry it out. Be careful because there is a plastic piece behind it that you don't want to wreck. Once you get the seal off, there is a hex drive bolt that needs to be taken out.

Thanks for the reply. I got the seal off, found the hex and began turning. Feels like somethings gonna break. The bellhousing is open about 1/4 inch now. Think a torch will help? My allen wrench is already bent to hell.

If you heat it up with a torch, it may help. I believe it has red loctite on it, so it needs to be broken loose. I got an allen scoket and put it on a 1/2" ratchet and got it out without heating it up. Other people have had success with heating it up. You may need a vice grips on the output shaft to hold it when you loosen the bolt. Otherwise it will spin.

I am using my old clutch to hold the output shaft. Gonna keep trying, hope nothing breaks. I appreciate the response.

Yup, that works just as good. Let me know how it turns out. I also have the part number somewhere for a replacement seal if you want it.

Luke, you have really helped. Got it off, looks easy now. Since you asked, the thieven stealership wanted 31 bux for the seal, AZ didn't have it. So I'm moving again. Will update when done.

It's back together. Drove about 30 miles. New clutch was a little choppy but smoothed out after a few miles. Can't test anything for about 500 miles but I really wanna see how the Team Green LSD works out with the new Spec stage 2.

F#(&, I think it's leaking. Getting a half dollar sized spot on the floor the last 3 mornings.
I did slop tranny fluid on the case when I filled it.
Was hoping that would run off and stop dripping.
Not really asking for help, just updating. Guess I will be under the car again this weekend looking. Easiest would be the half shaft seals but they were replaced along with the clutch and LSD. So I'm hoping I can retorque the outer case bolts and get it to stop.
Any thoughts or encouragement is welcome.

When you put the new seal in ( i hope you did ) did you put anarobic sealer around it?

Yah it's a new seal. No sealer.
Labrat
it needs sealer when installed, same sealer (red stuff) is what seals the 2 half's together.
that could be a leak.

Been screwing around with this for a couple weeks now. The leak is NOT from the seal. I can reach in and see it's dry. Pretty sure it's between the 2 case halves. Gonna have to pull it out again and find out why it's not sealed. It's a very slow drip so I have been topping it off. Don't ya hate there is no dipstick. (well except for the dipstick that reassembled it)
Labrat
Did you apply RTV sealant on the housing halves before you put it back together? If not, it for sure will leak.....It needs some type of sealant

I'm still stuck on trying to remove the bellhousing from my F23's. I have the bolts removed, that's about it. What else needs to come undone? where are the snap rings? What's the best way to break that allen "bolt" loose/hold the input shaft from turning?
I really could use a step by step walkthrough on this one.
Thanks in Advance.
I wanted to update the thread and put some closure (I hope) to this. I had the dreaded Fidanza flywheel defect rear its ugly head. Sheered the center out of it. The manufacturer did replace the wheel with an OEM and paid for the oil and seals for the repair.
So when I reassembled it this time I took the guru's advice and used anarobic sealer everywhere. Man is that great stuff or what. Anyway, after 3 days of driving and being parked I am seeing NO leak. Even sealed the rear main seal housing and that is bone dry also.
And one huge thanks goes out to Taesch, got me the bellhousing and some GM repair parts. You are the man. I will contact you about your tranny hopefully in the next couple of weeks.
