I have a 96 Sunfire 2.4L, 5 speed. Tranny just lately has been giving me a very large vibration and humming noise. It is VERY similar to a wheel bearing, but I had that checked and it is not, it is for sure inside the transmission.

If I turn right, the noise goes away, seeing how I am putting pressure on the axle and tranny, makes me wonder what it could be, turning left does nothing, I can shift in all gears and have no other problems, still drives normal, except for the vibration and humming noise.

Any ideas? axle? clutch? (although it still engages and disengages like normal), flywheel?

Btw, shop that looked at it said they heard the noise while in gear, but when they put it in neutral, it went away.

I am really thinking it is my axle. I did a few things today, If i just barely get on the brakes, noise and vibration almost all goes away.

I am having the car looked at this week, it still drives fine, plently of power, no clutch issues, no slipping at all, i am stumped.

Anyone have any insight?
