A bit strange for a car with only 47K miles, but my 01 Z24 has this annoying chattering noise from the clutch/flywheel that only occurs under 2000 rpm and only if I give it more than about 1/4 throttle. At 2000 rpm everything smooths out and becomes normal. Is this typical?
I get a rattle at idle with the A/C on with the clutch engaged. That's on my 2200 though.

No its not typical for a clutch to rattle. Off hand i think it could be that your damper springs in your clutch disc are broken. I'll go through my books tonight and try to get a better answer for you. But also how had are u on the clutch? Do you burnout alot, launch the car off redlights, or just dump the clutch when shifting?
OK this is straight from my Chiltons manual for a chattering clutch:
1. Oil on clutch disc lining, burned or glazed facings
2. Worn or loose engine or transaxle mounts
3. Worn splines on clutch disc hub
4. Warped pressure plate or flywheel
5. Burned or smeared resin on flywheel or pressure plate

I know whats happening, in about 50 to 60 thousand from now, your clutch will begin slipping above 2000 rpm and you'll need a new clutch it happening to me right now, by the way does anyone have any suggestions on a stage 2 - 3 SPEC clutch system, are you running one, how does it feel, what is the engagement like.
Oh - by the way NuclearSymphony - i bought my 2000 sunfire in 03 with a clutch that chattered during iniatial engagement, the car then had 101,000 km on it now it has 196,000 km, if you don't push the issue at takeoff, don't do burnouts and don't dump the clutch it may last 100,000, i got 95,000km out of mine before it finally started telling me to get a new one.
It is normal getrag trans noise.
yup, I have it too sometimes, seams to happen more often if I am comming off the highway, or if I am stuck in traffic and moving very slow.

I think its the getrag noise, i get it too. My clutch isnt too bad and im at 80k (it still grabs well, just close to the top).
