I broke the upper o-ring and need a replacement. Its highlighted above. Does anyone have a part number for it? I am going to the dealership after work, and would like to be able to provide a part #. Thanks and advance.
id like to know some part numbers for the shifter assembly as well.
if your going to the dealer , take a copy of that pic and show him
although prob easier to go to the hardware store and find a o-ring that will work , cheaper too
Went to the dealer Friday. I can't buy just the O-Ring, I have to buy the whole shifter assembly. The shifter assembly is $145. So off to Home Depot to see it they have something that works.
Try to get one thats made of viton, they would last longer.
Any update on this or does anyone know what size o-rings these are? I'd like to get a new upper and lower o-ring for mine...
Any help would be great...
Edit: And yes, I know this thread is old...

I don't have any additional info. I am still popping the O-ring back in every month or so when it gets loose. It is so stretched out, I don't even know what the original size is. If anyone knows please post. At least I can get something close to the size at a home improvement store.
Have you talked directly with the shifter company?
I'm back from the dead.
Currently Driving: RSX Type-S.
My Cavalier Burnt up :-(
Hmmm.... my new shifter at home has only 12k miles on it or when my GM service manuals get here i can have a look see in that.

The issue is the shifter company doesn't include them with the shifter, you are supposed to use the stock ones...
well I picked up a replacement at NAPA. I don't have the part # or size at the moment but I should be able to post it tomorrow...
Here is a picture comparison of my half broken one with the new one, they are very similar if not exactly the same...
This happened to me before as well, the top o-ring broke into 3 pieces, i looked and couldnt find a replacement.
However, the bottom o-ring was fine, so i just swapped the top for the bottom. The bottom o-ring is held in place by the housing pushing it against the walls, so it cant move anywhere.
Anyways, that did me fine for over a year without a problem.
ahfunaki i am interested in those part numbers, already have to stop by NAPA for an oil filter this weekend.
I was currently trying to make the shifter smoother on my girlfriend's 2001 Cavalier Z24, but I couldn't figure out how to remove the "Retainer" from the picture above, any tips for me?
Thank you.
I honestly dont remember. It may turn it the lift it straight up. or you have to get the tabs from underneath and it pops up.
