my 2nd gear is starting to grind only when down shifting into it...now will it quiet it down if i start putting gm's synchro mesh trans fluid in it???
it is a 04 cav 44k miles on it running 10-15 psi

join the crowd man mine took a total @!#$ on me a few weeks ago
yeah I gotta 2004 LS Sport Coupe & mine did the same thing but it eventually spread the problem to all the forward gears besides 3 & 4th. Either of you guys started popping outta gear yet? & to answer your question no the fluid won't help its already damaged now.
It beats a Honda!

yes mine was popping out of 2nd gear even if you held it in gear... but i took care of this isssue today

wow that must have sucked doing it on the ground like that..tahts why im thankfull i work for my dealership free @!#$ fro my car and a lift to do my work on my car..

it honestly wasnt to bad believe it or not... i tired it first with the k member in there and it wasnt working at all... it took us for ever to get the tranny out then the next day i said @!#$ it.. and droped it.. made it MUCH MUCH easier to get it in... just sat it on a 3 ton floor jack and lifted it up...
wow dude ..too bad u dont live up here i love auto xing not too many places to do it here though

hehe so if that doesnt tell you what kind of hell my trany has gone through.. its my first standard car, i auto x, i drag race, and i put over 120 miles on it a day monday - friday.. so yea my tranny was bound to mess up some time or another...

I feel your pain, 2nd took a dump on me today. Can't complain too much she's got 94k. Picked one up today at the salvage yard for $250 w/ 30k on it, seemed like a good deal. I've swapped plenty of RWD, but never a FWD. I'm planning on rebuilding the cobbed one to have it ready for the engine swap @ 100k. Any good after market kits available out there?

This is a very common prcvjoblem in our cars I dvon't really understand why ppl swear so much by the Getrag & it capabilities when like 50% of the people with them in a Cav has had to have them rebuilt @least once or all together replaced because of being damaged beyond a rebuildable state. My boys 02 LS Sport Getrag crapped out on him around 30,000mis it was rebuilt under warranty & about a month later it was shot again, so the dealer replaced it with a new one.

yeah.all the cars ive owned this is the most troubled trans ever..i dont want an automatic but idk what i will do when my new blows out on me??

mine started grinding into 4th at about 44K then at about 65K it started grinding into third, real pain in the ass... gonna cost at least 600 for fix

They have to be better than the Izuzu trannys. I remember reading a post about some of the parts inside the tranny are plastic. I plan on swapping the cobbed one out myself. That's the beauty of out J Bodies, theres not much to 'em. I'd like to find a rebuild kit for the old one so I can put it back in when I swap the engine @ 100k
