leaking Tranny Fluid Isuzu 97 2.4. Input shaft maybe?
Thursday, April 05, 2007 7:55 PM
The transmission is leaking on my 97 2.4 5 speed and it appears to be coming from inside the tranny. Could it be the input shaft from the tranny to the engine? Where the hell can it be going? It is covering everything so I cant find it. I replaced both output shaft seals and nothing helped, what else is there?

Please help
Chris

Are you sure it is tranny fluid? I mean 100% sure. Not brake fluid, not oil. I once had a oil leak that made it's way down tot he tranny and dripped off the diff housing. I thought it was tranny fluid took it to the dealer and it was a oil leak from my oil sending unit.

And oil leaking down onto your clutch is NO GOOD!!!

It can cause your clutch to slip and burn up very fast.

I am pulling the tranny tomorrow and replacing it with my back up. I dont want to deal with it, hope this works.

Any cheap places for the TOB?

This is not a 100% fix. The isuzu trannys are known for leaking at the seals for the axles. I know many people who had brand new ones put in and they still leaked. FRom info SpeedRacer posted there is 2 types of seals (brands), get the ones from AutoZone. Also do you know for sure it is tranny fluid? Maybe not brake fluid?

I have a small leak aroung the shaft area too. its where the cables go. it leaks right under there just been lazy... and I dont want to break the cable swivl thingy trying to pry it off. since cables are not cheap and the leaks not that bad.

Get the Timken seals, Timken is the good brand. I've got a leak like this too, but I've determined mine is not tranny fluid since my level hasn't dropped any.

I love my leaky J-bod. Haha. I'll fix it when I have access to a garage again. Apartment life is getting damn old, damn quick.
