well guys i have a major problem on my hands. i have a 2002 chevy cavalier ls sport with the ECOTEC and Getrag 5 speed transmission combo... i have a problem.. my car comes out of 2nd gear... it fully engages the gear, and will pull in that gear for a second or so then boom it pops out into neutral.. i dont know what this could be and its going to cost at least 650-750 for a tranny shop to fix it near my house... he said it could be the shift fork but the chevy dealer said it could be the syncro.. what do you guys think and if it is going to cost this much anyone know where i can buy a good used tranny, possiable motor with that tranny for less than this? let me know ASAP!.
yea thats what some shops said to me today on the phone.. so while i have the tranny off the car for the repair i am putting a stage 2 clutch on it with a fadinza flywheel...

Sounds like the shift fork to me...... Pobably busted the plastic tip off one side, or both, and its not fully engauging, allowing it to kick back out of gear.

btw if i am holding the clutch in i can feel it go into gear and everything its just when i let the clutch out it wants to throw it out of 2nd gear... so you think its still the fork?
I recently just had the same problem only i had to pull really hard on the stick in order to get it in the gear just to even get it to grab. then finally no more grabbing just slippage. only happened in second gear. Synchros!!! Then not too long after i blew my motor. I got a new motor 5 yr,100,000mile warranty Brand new clutch and and transmission from the junkyard with only 60,000 miles- all this plus labor just over $5000.
