My younger brother has a 1996 cavalier with a 4 speed auto transmission. His transmission is dead and hes in search of a new one.
Buddy of his just totaled a 96 sunfire with a 4 speed. I assume they are both 4t40e's and they should be interchangable. Am I correct? Someone has told my dad that the mounts are different and a sunfire transmission will not work?
Any ideas?

Unless one is a manual and one is a auto the trans' will swap. You've already said both are autos so go for it.

Unless one is a 2.2 and one is a 2.4. They are exactly the same.
Yea they are both 2.2's and autos. I was almost positive that they were exactly the same car besides the looks. I just wanted to make sure because someone my dad knows swears up and down that a sunfire tranny wont work.
