CHANGE THE TRANNY GASKET? MINES SEEMS TO BE LEAKING OR DO YOU HAVE TO COMPLETELY REMORVE IT?

im assuming you have an automatic tranny...I've done it once before and im about to do it again.. jack the car up its easier if you have access to the lift because when you check the the fluid level the tranny has to level as well to get an accurate reading from the weep hole. loosen the bolts but dont remove them. as you loosen them fluid will begin to come out you need to be careful because if you remove all the bolts you are going to have a big mess to clean up. after all the fluid has come out remove all the bolts and CAREFULLY remove the pan and gasket and anything still stuck to the tranny or the pan. Clean out the pan and make sure its dry before you put it back on you dont want any water in there with the tranny fluid. if you are replacing the filter which you might as well do remember to remove the old filter seal sometimes it can be a pain and it might be stuck just take your time and dont gouge the area around the seal. replace the filter and place the gasket on the pan i recommend tightening the bolts in a star pattern but dont tighten them too much i believe the haynes manual says 80 or so inch pounds. The gasket that comes with the car new is reusable and made of metal so reuse it if you can. most kits from autozone come with a cork gasket that is pretty crappy in my opinion and they break easily thats why im replacing mine again. check to see if the pan is dented or there is any damage on the tranny where the gasket goes as this is what could be causing your leak. be very careful of the cork gasket if you are going to use it. once the pan is securely back on refill the tranny from the top with 7-9 quarts of tranny fluid make sure you use the correct fluid im pretty sure the manual says mercron with dextron (Spelling?). after thats done you need to check the level from the weep hole on the passenger side of the tranny its a small screw. WITH THE CAR LEVEL, WARM, AND RUNNING unscrew the plug from the weep hole if there is no fluid coming out add fluid from the top of the tranny until fluid begins to dribble out after that replace the plug check for leaks then you should be good to go.. sorry this was so long didnt wanna forget anything.
