Hey guys, Im in dire need to know which transmission goes into the 1991 Cavalier convertable RS auto?? any help here thanks guys.
2.2 or 3.1? (if you fill out your registry, it makes it easier when you ask things like this) Both use the 3T40, but the valve body is different for each.
Forgive me, its not my car yet, thats why im doing research MAYBE when i buy ill add it, but thanks for the help. So you say the 3T40???? and the Valve body has what to do with the transmission??
The valve body is the "brain" of the trans. It has all the valves for applying pressure to the various bands/clutches. You can do some research on
www.howstuffworsks.som if you want.
The difference in the two is simply in apply/release pressures for certain gears. The 6 cyl has alot more torque and has different springs, pistons, etc. It is possible to use a 4 cyl trans with a 6 cyl car (and vice versa), but the shift points will be pretty strange.
If you go to
www.V6Z24.com and do some searching in the performance and general forums, you'll find the RPO codes (dealer numbering) for which is which and where its located on the trans case.
