It bleeds off the extra boost the turbo makes.

Bro go get Maxiumum Boost or read up on some "how to" sites.... fastest way to get the most accurate answers.

Wrong wrong wrong

A wastegate works by taking the pressure off of the exhaust fins on the exhaust side of the turbo. As boost pressure increases, the wastegate opens up, releasing pressure in the manifold (and venting it either to atmosphere, or back into the downpipe), which causes the exhaust fins to spin at a slower speed, reducing boost. The wastegate doesn't bleed off boost at all (otherwise it'd be connected to the charge pipes), it bleeds off exhaust, bypassing the turbo essentially.

If you are looking for a low boost setup (less than 12), then I'd pick a turbo with an internal gate.

although I would still plan on picking up maxium boost you sound like you are going to be peiceing your own kit together. if this is true then maximum boost is the way to go I was were you were about a year ago. I can tell you that book is the @!#$. also start clicking on as many things in the boost section as you can and pay attetion to the thread (other peoples problems can help you avoid your own)

With the charge pipe, you can have and exhaust shop make one, which is usually nice since it will have as few sections as possible. Meaning they can bend you a top piece that will connect to the TB and down through the motorbay to another coupler into the charge pipe of the intercooler(if it is intercooled). This way looks alot cleaner than having 10 sections of pipes and couplers everywhere.

You basically know what's what I meant you arrogant twat.

As Ron said, it lets the exhaust gasses that spin the turbine bypass it. My brain was moving slow at the time.

Like I said the fastest way to get ACCURATE info is something like Maximum boost.

You'll never let me live that down eh ronnie boy?
