CAVALIER CONNECTION TURBO KIT
Thursday, July 07, 2005 7:02 PM
I recently purchased a turbo kit from cavalier connection and have completed my install. My instal went great and the car runs very well. The thing about cavalier connection that I like was that I've never met the guys and they're like friends. Any questions I had was answered. Any problems I had were solved, and my suggestions were considered.
For anyone looking for a good quality bolt on kit this is a great choice. These guys will work with you from beginning to end until your install is complete, thus is very rare with aftermarket companies. Sometimes they may take a while to get in touch with but they will get back to you they always did with me. I'm not trying to sell kits for them, not to sound like an ass but I don't care if they sell them or not. I just trying to guide (from experience) anyone who is looking to do something like this to their car in the right direction

Also, I would like to know if you have pictures, and whether or not you got the intercooled kit.

Awesome!

Good to hear nice things about companies making things for our cars.

Keep up the good work at Cav connection.

I am curious to see if they left out anything as well. Anything major you had to buy on top of their kit?

Later,
Jeff

JoE – I realize you’d rather hear from someone who’s installed it but the two most recent customers to install our 2.4L kit (Blake and Derrick) don’t get to spend spend too much on the JBO boards. Jay32m just received his kit too – although he hasn’t installed it yet, he can vouch for the kit contents and comprehensive installation instructions. But here’s a 2.4L DOHC kit review (as posted on the new & improved web site we’re going to launch soon) by Derrick:

"I am completely happy with the service I received from you guys and would recommend anyone interested in buying a turbo kit to buy it from Cavalier Connection if they want a quality product at a fair price. It also says it’s a direct bolt on kit and it does just that." Rating: [5 of 5 Stars!]

Andrew – Here’s a link to a picture of this kit installed on our shop car:

And here’s a picture of the kit contents:

As far as the intercooler kit goes, we’ve mocked it up, test-fit it and have sent the piping off to our header manufacturer for production. We have not yet received that production run, but we’re hoping to within a couple of weeks.

Offering a true bolt-on, turn-key kit, inclusive of absolutely everything was one of the goals we hit with this kit. So, yes, the kit includes every last gasket, connector, bolt & nut in addition of course to all custom bent piping that brackets to stock mounting points and does not interfere with factory options. And our kits are a proven fit on both automatics and 5-speeds (the one in the photo above is an automatic). The kit also includes a ‘no-weld’ oil pan tap for turbo oil return, because another design goal was: “One person, one weekend installation using ordinary hand tools and requiring no trips to the auto parts store.” Here’s a review from a recent (2.2L OHV) customer:

"Just bought this kit about a month ago, and it is great. Highly recommend this kit to others who want to go boosted. Leo and Adam are great to work with they put a lot of pride in their work, if you need anything they will bend over backwards for you to help you out and get your kit installed. Ryan" Rating: [5 of 5 Stars!]

We are still working on the optimum fuel solution to include with both our 2.4L DOHC kit and our 2.2L OHV kits. We’re testing many different sizes injectors, different fuel pumps, FMU, boost controllers, etc. etc. As anyone who is boosted can tell you, this takes some trial and error to get just right. Our goal is to offer a packaged fuel solution with our kits in the very near future.

Thanks,
Leo

Leo,

I would like to know what type of fuel mods/managament comes with the kit. What size injectors and brand and specs on the FMU, if any. The site is not very detailed on what the kit includeds. Leo, could you answer these questions for me please. Thanks.

CavalieRX - Yeah, we're sorry the site's vague on that but we're still working on a final solution.

We're testing/tuning both our boosted 2.2L OHV and 2.4L DOHC using various products. On the 2.2L we currently have RC 370 injectors, an FMU, an electronic boost controller and inline fuel pump. It's running fine for the most part, but still sees lean occasionally - which we don't like of course. It's still driven daily, but we know it's not tuned good enough to pay for dyno runs yet. We tried 330 injectors only on the 2.4L with no FMU or fuel pump - bad idea - very lean at high RPM and 7 pounds or so. But we're stepping through the tuning process one component at a time so we can isolate results of each component. Walbro in-tank is next on that one - sitting there waiting to be installed. We're also using a wide-band to monitor testing results. We also have a few other devices we've picked up to experiment with. Doing it this way is time-consuming (and expensive), but we'd really like to be able to confidently recommend at least a base solution that we know to keep things in the safe range, while still getting a reasonably-tuned performance result. We'd rather test at OUR expense versus the customer's. Not sure we'll end up with the same solution for both kits - that would have been nice for us, but not sure it's really practical. Another factor we have to consider is affordability. We don't want to bundle "over-kill" into the kits and drive the price out of reach - but we also want to make sure we don't "under-fuel" and put customers engines at risk - so it's a balancing act and finding that just right combo is taking a little time.

I know that was a long non-answer, but wanted to make sure you knew we're working hard on this issue. Thanks - Leo

Thanks Leo for the quick response!

Nice to see a company putting alot of RnD into thier kits. Im still debating on which kit to buy. I dont have the money yet so im in no rush although technically i could charge it and buy it now but id rather pay cash. Do you have a ruff estimate of how much a CC kit would cost, COMPLETE, including all necessar fuel mods and intercooler?

CavalieRX - Targeting to keep it just under $4K - but a little hard to say until we get fuel solution finalized. Kit w/o intercooler or fuel = $2,495 . . . intercooler kit = $995 . . . HOPING to discover suitable fuel solution we could offer for $500-ish - but not entirely confident on that yet.

But, one quick side note . . . I noticed you have an Ecotec . . . we're still working on our Eco kit - currently doing "engine stand" development and just acquired an '04 Eco Cavalier as test mule, but still a little ways away from doing any "in-car" test fitment on that one. And I know the fuel solution will be a little trickier on the Eco too. Again, wish we were further down the road on that one, but don't want to release a kit until we've gone through the right R&D and Q.A. process.

Thanks - Leo

I'm very happy with his products all way around. and he does seem like a friend you've never met. talked with him quite a few times just for questions and things of that nature. good people to do business with.
