top speed at track questions
Tuesday, June 28, 2005 7:37 AM
I will be running an apexi safc piggyback with full msd dis 2 programmable ignition. When I go to the track will my top speed limiter still kick in? If so how do i disable it and keep my stock speedo. Because in my thinking the top speed govenor either takes away spark or fuel or both. But I have the spark covered and maybe the fuel. I'm just not sure....Any info would be great.

i highly doubt you will need to be turning off the speed limiter, not unless your running low 13's high 12's.

I plan on running low 12's. And maybe some 11's. But I was talking about a full road track like road america. Anyone know???

The speed limter will still be there, and there's no way you'll run low 12's or high 11's on a stock engine. Worry about your speed limiter when you start hitting it, it'll be a while.

In any case, wouldn't it be bad to hit the govner under boost??

i believe both the rev limiter and speed governor on our cars are fuel cutoffs. For reasons mentioned in the rules and faq section, nobody here is going to tell you how to disable the speed governor.... figure it out yourself.

Not really. No fuel isn't a lean condition or anything. No fuel means no burn means no heat. You're not gonna blow anything up.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

You still do not want to hit fuel cut on boost.

Why must people be dicks when it comes to speed cut. People jumped the gun saying he has no reason to get rid of the speed limiter. As he has stated he has a built turboed motor. Heck factory turbo motors can go fast enough in the 1/4 to need a switch on the speed limiter.
With your mods, MSD, etc you will still have speed limiter. So you will need to go around it. Contact me I will tell you how to do so, if you need it.

If you can figure out how to make your car that fast, you can figure out how to bypass the limiter.

I figured it out and wasn't even trying! But don't need the mod as I have no reason to go over 108 yet

Not always true. if you are a old schooler, and know V8's that was not limited by speed limiters, but only gears you would not know this. Not everyone just knew how to do a speed limiter override. I did not. I got it off the org. That is what this place is here for.
Not everyone knows electronics.

I disagree. If you have a LS1 there is programmers that do it all for you. We do not have that. We have to find ways around rev limiters etc...
I have known many people who have fast cars but did not know how to get around the speed limiter, or how to change there oil all this on a J that pulled 113 mph in the 1/4.

the LS1 is easy to change the speed limiter... got ours taken of the Trans am before the car had 200km's on it... but then we also had alot of parts put on and when the computer got reprogramed for them the speed thing was just taken of because of it..

Exactly what I'm saying. People make it sound like it is everyday knowledge to disable the speed limiter on a J. It is not like doing it on a F-Body.

I was referring to the J-body specifically, making IT that fast, not all cars.

Actually you can turbo a J and not know about all the electronics of a J. There is a lot in the elctronics that no one on here knows. Truely the to bypass the speedlimiter once you knows seems sooo easy, and it is. Making a car fast and knowing that is 2 different things.

I think ppl will "jump the gun" when there is nothing in a registry listing to indicate that you have something under the hood other than stock.

1996 Chevrolet Cavalier Z24

Body Style: Coupe
Color: bright red
Engine: 2.4L DOHC "Twin Cam"
Transmission: Automatic
Interior: black/red

this does not inspire me to believe that anyone would have a monster under the hood. if they do fine n/p.

You are right people do jump the gun too much on here. no one asked him what he had. I had talked to him, gave him directions on the VSS override, and know whathe has. He seems to have a nice set-up. Of course he could of lied, as well I could be lying about whats in my registry, or anyone else here. This is a board to help other J-body owners to mods, or whatever to there cars, not tell them how they should do there car, or how they should drive there car, at what speed, etc..... Leave that to the owner. Also internet can not be used in court, so how is telling someone how to get around the speed limiter going to get the ORG in trouble???
