Supercharger for 2.4L 1996 auto?
Thursday, June 02, 2005 3:13 PM
The only Supercharger kits I can find say for 2000-2002 2.4L manuals. Why is it that it wouldn't work with my 96? I know it probably perfers a manual trans due not wanting to damage the transmission with the added power but lets forget about that right now. Will that kit work on a 96?

Does anyone make a kit specifically for a 96?

i believe you can use the GM S/C kit on a 96-00 LD9... or you can just buy RSM's Vortech supercharger kit.

If you want the GM Charger look here. Hanzenrider. Otherwise your best bet like stated above is the RSM Charger.

If you have any questions, email me and I can explain it to you. I'm also selling my gm supercharger if you're interested (I'm more flexible on the price than what is listed on the classified ad). My email is listed on my info page, so feel free.

99 is the best year to do a pre 00' supercharger set up on.

^ Cause like my 99.....You dont have to worry about egr, you already have the right starter, and you can use the injectors....Only thing you can't use is the reflash.....

no, stay away from them HO injectors. far far away.

best bet is stock injectors, better fuel pump, FMU . that is what i run on the stock s/c pulley.

you can run the HO injectors, they clip over 60psi and make your spark plugs turn white and grey from detonation.

I've had HO injectors in my motor with SC and my car was a 1998. Never had a problem with em... car actually ran better with HO than RC injectors. Pulled harder. Guy who bought my car... drove it with them HO's from AZ to PA and did not have one problem. If I was gonna do this whole SC mod thing again.. I'd get the HO's again and i never planned to go any higher than 4.5 psi. If you have plans to go much higher than that.. then HO is a no-no.

What if you have a 96 auto?

It is true 99 is the best year to put the SC on but if you have a 1997 or 1998, simply throw in 99 PCM and change over the knock sensor and you're set to go. For a 96, Jake aka GreenZ is the best guy to talk to cuz his is a 96 and 96 dont allow a change over of PCM with 99 because the pinouts are different.

i run the GM charger on my 99 Zed auto. you need the 99+ starter as its smaller or the charger won't bolt on. the mad scientist who owned the car before me changed the whole car over to 00+ wiring so all i had to do was buy the kit and get the re-flashed ECM from DerekZ24 and put it together. it runs flawless now. we checked for timing retard due to knock and A/F ratio and its stoic and running fine. no codes or problems with it. the only thing i've found is to run a breather instead of the suplied breather inlet into the TB. due to its low nature in relation to the oil outlet for the breather, at really hard cornering it can allow a bit of oil into the system resulting in a nice puff of blue smoke upon re-accelerating after the corner.
