i was talking to my buddy chris, hes on here, possibly as sunfighter, and he was saying hes running the 4 wire 3800 o2 in his car because its heated. has anyone had any problems running the stock o2 in their cars or is this a common upgrade to do?

yeah, i might get that before i drop off the car for the piping, just as a preventitive measure

how well does the pcm communicate with that 4-wire o2 sensor? what has to be done?
I was a retard, and now I'm permanently banned.
from my understnading the 4 wire has a power, ground and high and low signal and you hook up the high signal and it apparantly works just like the stock unit except that its now heated. ill have one ready to go in wen my charge pipes and downpipe are done

Chris stole the o2 off my 3800sc motor and it works great. The reason you need it is because once you move it off the manifold and onto the downpipe, it doesnt eat up by itself before the first minute of startup when the PCM is in open loop. So after that first minute is up, its not getting a reading and runs like a tractor till it warms up. Its really simple to install, just splice the high side reading into the original purple wire and run the power/ground wires. Cut the low side and leave it. WARNING!!! Do NOT use the 4 wire sensor from a 3400, it does NOT work!!! Chris and I first installed a 3400 o2 and for some reason, they dont work. Make sure you get a 3800 one.
thanks for the info darren, whats a 3800 o2 worth? do they only have one or one on a manifold and one on the cat? and what series engine?

A 3800 02 new is like $150 CAD - ridiculous.
And yes, you hook it up:
high signal - stock 02 purple wire
power - switched 12v power
ground - ground
low signal - not used.
The car still runs like ass for about 15 seconds after closed loop, but then the 02 sensor takes over and I'm fine, so it only tractors for a few seconds now. MUCH better than before, I idled it for 20 minutes the other day and got in to drive it and the 02 sensor STILL wasn't warmed up (the stock one).....
Huge misfiring, bucking of the car, running rich as a pig - it was ridiculous.
So yeah, the new heated sensor really really helps your car get to where it has to be really quick. I recommend it.

ok good stuff chris thanks. stupid o2 isnt cheap eh, lol.
so theres only 1 o2 sensor on the 3800 then right? and it doesnt matter which year it is or from which series engine?

There are 2 sensors on a 3800. 1 upstream and 1 downstream, use the upstream from the manifold.
thanks darren, im gonna see what my cost through my buddy is and go from there
