2.8-2.9-3.0
Wednesday, May 23, 2012 6:35 PM
So just wondering what pulley i should run..I bought a 2.8,But thinking it may be a bit small,So should i go 2.9 or 3.0...

I have the cooling mods,But the motor is stock except, for cams and balance shaft delete kit..

So let me know what you think would be a good choice,I dont want to blow up the motor, but if so I will build a new one..

Thanks,jason

If properly tuned a 2.8.

I tuined a stock motor M62 (stock cams and stock TB) on a 2.8 and made 236whp. This was without meth, with meth it would have made more.

Ok thanks. I am already at 230whp on the stock Pully.

So just wondering if the 2.8 might be to small.

Thxs

my setup made 238 with meth on the GM flash before i got ahold of it. it was capable of more if HPtuned! all on a stock motor.

Yes that was without my cooling mods.

Well Mabey I will just go for the 2.8 then. I also got 60 pound injectors.

So cross my fingers. Lol

on the m62 and 2.8 i think stage2's (42.5lb) will be okay...ive considered dropping to a 2.8 from my 3.0 as well...and if the tuner does it properly i should still be within my injector limits. im on a stock L61 tb, but am fairly well cooled and have both spacers too.

id like to see your results for sure!

This will depend on what fuel pump your running.

Stock fuel pump will not cut it. Unless using meth, and could be close then as well.

You might be ok.

I'm with Tinkles and would go 60's for a 2.8.

I thought I remember someone saying the stage2's (42.5lb) were still well within the proper duty cycle limits on a 2.7/2.8+ pulley with the pump i have now.
after the 2.7 or 2.8 pulley, a retune, and possibly some meth direct injected to my intake manifold to lower temps, i dont plan on doing much more for quite a while. but we all know how that goes lol

2.8 would be the lowest i would go with a M62. Any smaller and the heat starts canceling your gains.

BTW, im maxing out a set of 63# injectors, but im on a tired stock pump.

so 2.8 smoothflow, 42.5lb injectors, wbody high performance fuel pump, stock L61 tb, on stock M62....other than porting out the tb a little (dont see the need to upgrade with this setup) I cant do much else without going into the motor. time for a turbo! lol

Oh there is pleny more to do. Ported intake mani, ice box, meth, larger TB, better "CAI", speed density tune, etc.

ported blower, TVS upgrade, smaller pulley!

im just talkin about my setup with a stock engine and stock m62....a good TVS costs as much as my entire setup cost..including fuel pump, exhaust, tune, etc lol...

but with my current stock m62 setup...for the money it costs...how much more power can you make with a few ported intake pieces, bigger tb, and injectors? i thought these stock m62's were at a point where they just stop producing power and start going backwards in efficiency?

I have 60 pound injectors. And the 2.8 Pully. So should I swap to a different fule pump. Or will I be fine. Thxs

Look at your injector duty cycle. The rule of thumb is no more than 85%. If it is lower then you are fine, but if it is higher then you need to start looking into lowering it to avoid premature failure of the injector and an upgraded fuel pump will help lower it.

Your power depends on your tune, but i dont see why it wouldnt be possible to get up over 250whp.

He was at like 232 on the stock pulley and zero cooling.....a 2.8 will wake it up! Sadly ill never catch him now!
