ive listened to a lot of video's on here and im almost positive im getting compressor surge. im gonna call ATP tomorrow and see what spring they put in them stock and see if i need a different one... anyone know what our engine vacuum reading is? here is a website i found springs, i need to do something though because i know its not good for my turbo to reverse direction.

anyone know where i can get just the springs or which i need? like i said im gonna call ATP and see whats in it now.
See, here's the deal.... I thought I had compressor surge as well. I had the Tiial 50mm BOV that I purchased from Blouch Turbo. They explained to me that it was not compressor surge I was hearing. As far as I know Tial put's the stiffest spring in their BOV's to start with.
You're hearing a shuttering sound? If it was the same as mine, that was my bov shuttering before opening all the way.

Thats the same thing im getting lol. it sounds 100% like compressor surge lol. i do know that after it does that i can hear it psh after it flutters.
My car did the same thing with a HKS SSQV BOV. I was told it was just the BOV partialy opening and not the turbo.

Ok, im not sure what motor you have but this is easier with the 2.2! Take of your air filter and cold pipe, then have someone rev it up, place your hand close to the turbo and see if it pulls or pushes when they let off! That was an easy enough test for me. I have the hks ssqv and was hearing the same thing, but if there isnt a big enough fluctuation in vacuum it wont open quickly. under a big drop my bov almost flies off my pipe. its loud as fauck!
^^^ Did you just suggest somebody put their hand up near a turbo inlet while somebody else rev's it up?
Not safe. Not safe at all.
Vince, how much boost are you pushing? Your BOV may not be opening at a low psi due to spring tension, etc. I know mine doesn't do squat at 4-5 psi or less at low throttle... chatters a bit but doesn't open fully. Once I go above that it works fine.

Ask Bob Norwood what happens when you put fingers near spinning compressor wheels....

You're fine vince, it's just too stiff a spring for the pressure in pipes. It's fluttering not just pssshting.

that makes me feel a lot more comfortable
thanks guys
it sounds cooler anyway. look at it this way.. when this turbo gets lunched upgrade to a bigger one
^^^^^ That video is exactly what my HKS SSQV sounded like. I was told that the more boost you run the less likly it is to flutter.

I know the one my buddy has on his RX-7 has washers in it. Can you just remove one? That would help. He tried putting more in to get it to flutter more lol
