Hey guys I have been trying to get my exhaust system a little bit quieter to try and make it more cop friendly. I was wondering if anybody had any experience with exhaust cut outs. I was thinking of possibly putting back on the stock exhaust and where the 2.5" downpipe goes into a 90 to go under the car I was thinking about placing a 2.5" electronic cut out here. Do you guys think this would make my performance just as good or close to my current setup of 2.5" with a n1 style muffler? Thanks in advance! Just trying to decide what to do next.

Well I'm not exactly sure what you're asking. The whole point of a cutout is to be able to control when you have your performance & when you have your stealthiness. With the cutout open(open downpipe) the performance will be greatly benifitted & while its closed(highly restrictive) it will suffer greatly. Not exactly sure but the stock piping might be too restrictive & put too much backperssure on the turbo, premature failure. I'm sure someone else will correct me if I'm wrong though, lol. It would quite it down though

It's not possible to harm a turbo from too much backpressure. If you plug your exhaust, your car just won't run.
Think of how many cars come stock with turbos. Now, most of them included cats and chambered mufflers, so no problems there obviously.
To the OP: I haven't heard many good reports of electric cutouts, they don't seem to seal adequately.

okay. I am just trying to think of ways to still get the same performance, but just quiet it down a little. I know how restrictive the stock exhaust is believe me I had to run it for a few months until I could afford to upgrade. But as long as I am just driving around town stock exhaust is really all the performance I need. I am just trying to find a reliable cut out and wondering if it would still be as effective as my current setup when I do have the cut out open.

I'm sure it will be a lot more effective then your current set up. I've seen some guys on the tib forums going pretty nuts over them.
