Timing chain tensioner problem

Motor is a 1999 2.4L

So heres the deal. Finally got my motor back in after doing ARP studs, bolts, MLS head gasket and a new turbo setup. Took the car out for a little rip N/A cause i didn;t have the charge pies ready yet, and when i got back the timing chain was chattering at idle, but went away for it was revved up a bit. I know its the timing chain tensioner but heres where i need help. I didn't know you had to reset the tensioner (wasn;'t in the damn book!!) when you put it back in. So either A) can i reset the tensioner and all is good as gold or B) do i need a new tensioner? If i need a new tensioner i know there is a 1 peice design rather than the factory 2 peice. If so, does anyone have a part # for this 1 peice tensioner???

If it were one-piece, then it wouldn't function lol.

Did you release the spring tension on the tensioner before putting it all back together? That's probably your problem. When you're at idle, the hydraulic pressure inside the unit is lower, and the chain isn't as stressed so it will make noise. As you rev, the noise will disappear, as you've said yours does. Take the timing chain cover off and you should be able to tell whether it was released properly or not. If not, you'll need to press down on the top of the tensioner with a screwdriver or something, and it'll pop back up. It might take a few tries, and would be an asset for you to have someone with previous experience to assist you in this.

^^ x 2 that is your issue, I have had that happen before, make sure you tear it all down and check to make sure the chain didn't jump.
