Alcohol injector.. with images...

well i am getting a few pms and know some one who all have screwed the TPS sensor due to alcohol injection... I have gone threw that already and never want to again so here it is... i know its not rocket science but this all you guys need... this helped me out huge... took me a trip down to Rona (revy) and a TB spacer

i have no issues with the tps sensor.

but how much for that t/b spacer? i know blackz2401 something or others buddy was supposed to make some, but that never happened.

about $150... i think has 2 spots for holes.. already taped but you have to drill them out abit...

Parts list

- Power Aid TB spacer
- Injector (info about them and can buy here) http://www.enginerunup.com/parts/injector-nozzles/prod_9.php
- 90 degree elbow with both female ends. (injector goes in one end)
- 2" long nipple with 1/8th npt threads (the one i got i had to make the threads long with a tap and die set) if you can get one threaded all the way down this will be what you screw threw the spacer...
- T fitting or you can use another 90 but i could only find a T fitting and i just got a 1/8th npt plug for the other side

and then the last part you will have different depending on what line you have feeding your injector.. also i do suggest a check valve like this one

http://www.enginerunup.com/parts/custom-built-check-valve/prod_42.php

both me and my dad are going to be using this... just a good precaution so you dont suck alcohol in when you dont want to...

also you will need to drill out the hole that is in the spacer to 17/32 i think it is... i will double check tomorrow but you need to do this and then tap out a 1/8th npt hole (you can get the tap at a home hard ware store or auto store) and just use a wrench or somthing to turn it in... be sure to use some lube... WD-40 is what i used... and turn it in a bit and back it out and so you get proper threads....

any questions let me know... i have used alcohol injection quite a bit not only on the sunfire so hopfully i cananswer any of the questions you have

how thick is that ?

e bay has some OBX ones for 50$, but not sure how thick it is.

i want to see if i can make one of these. cant be that tough. i can get scrap aluminum at my work for 1$ a pound. i just need to find something this thick.

care to share some dimensions off that ? if not i would have to measure/ trace out a throttle body.

here is the one i found on e bay. i am just waiting to see how thick the one u have, and the one on e bay. i can drill a hole.

that one is cheaper, but for a tacoma. regardless, if all i would have to do is drill the hole for the water injector nozzle, and then make hog out two of the t/b mounting holes that is fine with me.

isn't that going to affect air flow, thats a pretty big piece to put in the middle of your air stream.

What are you using to seal up the hole that the line goes through, anything special?

the obx 1 is 1" thick

i was actually thinking of getting 1 and drilling and tapping it (gives me a excuse to use my taps)

i havent had any problems with mine currently , but ive allways had some intermitant issue with my idle and off idle stumble , and idle pulse , and it happens at random

did it before the alky too , the tb idled fine on my other car

but figured it wouldnt hurt and might look cool

ya i sorta got a weird idle at times(rare). but 50psi of fuel pressure at idle, 9lb flywheel seceret cams will do that. car basically idles like stock. i am happy with it.

nope... it wont hurt much at all.. it will just increase the volocity of the if really... ahah you should the the one in the gnx... we have 2 injectors coming into a 3" tube... you think mine blocks off lots lol

Wade Jarvis wrote:What are you using to seal up the hole that the line goes through, anything special?

i put teflon tape on the part that went threw the plate... so then screwd it in...

Jake - the plate i have is 1" thick

i am thinking of something like this. not sure if i want to drill into my s/c. i seen a guy do it with a nitrous nozzle.
Doing this would be cheaper and be the same concept as what you have done. It wouldnt block any air flow.

i have mine like his im the pic so that thealky follows the air flow going in

instead of going into the air flow and a right angle

ya i am going to forget drilling a injector into the s/c. didnt really find a good place for it.

my thoughts are if you have a properly set up system, you will have no problems with the TPS nor need a t/b plate. meaning from your soloniod, or check vavle to your injector isnt a long distance, so when the system stops spraying/ throttle body closes there isnt much of any water going through. on my set up i have about little over 6 inchs from the injector to the checkvavle.

i can see your point... but just from my personaly experience.. i had a check valve and only about 18" of steel braided line to the pump and i was injecting it into that 3" black tube you have that connects to the TB and that is when my TPS craped out... also a buddy of mine who is on here too (LAFNGAS) his TPS valve went on him here after using his aky set up for a fair amount of time and he also had a check valve from what i remember but he was spraying about 20" back from the TB... but still screwed it up... and you can ask him it is not fun at all when that thing goes...

nope, its @!#$ty as hell and causes much unneeded surging and @!#$ty gas mileage

Re: Alcohol injector.. with images...

yep, that was your problem. the system stops spraying and what is ever left in your line goes and hits the t/b and goes striaght down the t/b. like i said, i got not even 6 inchs on hose between the check vavle and the injector and i have no issues and get 30mpg.

anyways, that t/b plate is a nice idea.

Re: Alcohol injector.. with images...
Saturday, July 15, 2006 11:26 AM
mine is 6-8 inches away from the tb , my check valve didnt matter where it was still shot about the same after , tell the line pressure droped enough

my milage hasnt changed much , since before i put the s/c on , on average i think with the s/c ive droped 25 miles from a tank of gas , or about 1 extra gallon is used up with the s/c

ive got sperattic idle issues , thats about it , and i cant say it was because of the alky , cause it did wierd things before the alky too

also when the alky is on , i tend not to let the throttle body close if ive been in boost , expecting the final drops to get sucked up past the tb

That is real big and would really mess up airflow

actually it wont.... the air will increase volocity passing by it but thats about it... its not going to hurt any thing at all... unless of coarse it came loose and went threw the supercharger ahaah

allllright.

i found this part you shown on e bay for 100$ shipped, (well 110). but i like the OBX one better. it is 40$> and i would have to drill my own hole/ cobble something together.

if i was going to use this. (i like the idea) i would probably go with a injector like this : http://www.coolingmist.com/detailmain.aspx?pid=13N

so basically i would have to drill and tap the spacer, figure out something to put the injector holder on there and i am in business. thing i dont like is that it push's the t/b out more and i am running the stock s tube so it damn near hits the battery now. and with one more inch it probably will.

i will look into it. also i will look over drilling a hole in the s/c right after the t/b. that would be pretty easy , just drill the hole, tap it it, and run that injector i pictured in.

reason being-- i think i might have a tps issue, car was kinda idleing weird yesterday. it was idling little higher then normal. i might have had my foot touching the gas when i hit the brake as i was wearing my steel toe work boots which i think is what happened as i couldnt get it to idle weird and it was fine on my way home last night.
but the t/b spacer is a cool idea i want to look into.

how u know ur TPS was goofed up? what it do?
