i have a question that i havent see asked on here that muchi searched and didnt really find much, i am about to purchase a turbo manifold from a guy in the classifieds for my ecotec motor and its for an internal wastegate how hard would it be to weld on an external wastegate flange on there? and if i can were do i position the flange on the manifold so it doesnt hit anything any pics are appreciated, ive seen some manifolds just have it on top in the middle, oh and wat is the difference between running open dump or running it into my downpipe? just wondering thanks guys!
When you tap the manifold for the piping to your wastegate, you can pretty much do it anywhere (withing the collector, preferably) you'd like. What will dictate this is the space--or lack thereof--you're working with once you get the manifold installed. The flange itself doesn't have to be welded to the manifold, either. You can pipe out to the wastegate and put it anywhere you'd like. Mine is about a 12-14" from the collector.
If you leave the dump tube open, you're basically running a small, un-mufflered exhaust system. Could sound good, but probably won't depending on what you like. If you run it into your exhaust, it'll be mufflered (quieted) with the rest of the gases. That's really the right way to do it if you're using this car on the street.
We could weld it up for ya!

cool so having it at that distance wont hinder performance in any way? do you have pics of how urs is done i think you posted up piks but i cant find em, do you maybe have any pics of them on a ecotec manifold seeing how urs is a 2.2 right?
how much for the welding hrpro?
could add on teh flange and tube for $50.00 + Shipping back which is about $10-15

aww you add the wastegate flange on ur website for 36 bucks! how bout we do 36 when i get the manifold?
well thats also because your buying the whole manifold off me as well! Now i gotta take a different company made manifold, machine the hole into it, and weld onto it.

aww that sucks i guess ill prolly do it but ill see if can find someone here to do it
let me know wat yall think is it a good deal for a hundred bucks shipped? im just looking for something that will work pretty good and since im only gonna run like ten psi i dont need something thats all fancy and stuff, also hrpro were would you weld in the flange on this manifold?
As long as the manifold is well wleded then it's a good deal. It's really hard to find a manifold for under $100 unless you have to tools to make it yourself. Although you could get the same header with the wastegate flange for about $200.
As for placement that all depends on the wastgate, the turbo and how it sits in your car. Ideally you want the wastegate runner in the center of the collector, but thats not always feasable.
When it comes to welding find a local guy that way if (and it's not uncommon) anything goes wrong you can take it back a get it fixed. If you ask at any machine shop or decent parts store they can recommend someone. I'd recommend tig becasue it will ensure that the different metals stick well. If you have access to a drill press you can cut the wastegate hole yourself (it's a 1.5" holes). This will also make sure your set up is the way you want it.
Dump pipe will spool faster in theory but it's loud .... and I mean very loud. It's basically like running open header. If I'm hard on it and pass a bus or a cube van or am next to a wall the sound bouces off and is deafening. If you plan out your selt up

cool ill prolly send it out to hrpro so they can weld it on there id rather have someone whos done this before weld it on there, and with the dump tube is it just a loud noise like how u said open header or can you hear any whistle or anything at all i know on my friends srt he has the open dump and just idling it sounds awesome and he says its cuz of the dump tube
That all comes down to the wastegate and the turbo and all that. Some turbos whistle more then others, some set ups will whistle more then others. I know my side exit exhaust whistled way more then my dump pipe (no longer side exit).
