Sunday, May 14, 2006 8:55 PM
greetings all and hello. i am just the proud owner of a 2.2 ohv 1990 cavalier, my grandfathers car, and i am wanting to turbo it, like 6 or 7 pounds of boost. what are your thoughts? i am in the planning stages and still have a long way to go but i would like to have you input, by the way, it has 52000 original miles on it. please, tell me what you think, thanks

even easier when you leave it to the hands of Bill Hahn... if you know how to set up your own turbo kit and know what your doing and how to pick things that will work for you i would make your own kit.... if not i would hightly suggest ordering up a kit from Hahn... or Jtuners

ahah ill even be so nice as to post the two links directly to the set ups for you

http://www.jtuners.com/ he is gone untill the 28th of May as you will see on his web site but after that he is good to go on taking orders again...

http://www.hahnracecraft.com/auto/Cavalier/ln2ohv.htm this is a very well put togeather kit, basically bolt it on and go and with Bill hahn's back ground any problems are ushally easly solved...

^ Neither of those are for a 1990 2.2 OHV, the charge piping would have to be redone on both kits, and he hasn't specified if its an auto or manual, I'm assuming auto...

hmmmmm..... Are you sure it's a 2'2l????? i thought it was a 2.0l in 90

horsepower is how hard you hit the wall, Torque is how far you push the wall with you

no they are 2.2;s and it cane be done... I did it and currently running 9psi, but they are right.. there is alot of modifying involved. it will bolt up to the egine ok. (bought mine from j-tuners) but your going to fabricate a water neck from the pump because the external wastgate (if thats what you go with) will hit the stock waterneck. also, you will have to set your radiator farther out (closer to the front bumper by 1 inch or so) and relocate the fan to the front of radiator... but all the charge pipes WILL have to be custom fabricated. Don't get me started if you decide to run a FMIC. other than that... it wastn' hard to do.

**changes are here**

actualy its a manual transmission, and i was thinking about using a t3 turbo, i have some different turbo maps. an intercooler would be nice. i dont know much more than the basics of turbo charging, but its something that i want to do so that makes learning........easy, if you will. also tell me, what do you all know of using methanhol as a supplemental fuel? i have heard of supercharged mustangs running 15 psi with non-forged pistons using methanhol as the rest of the fuel need for boosted cars. i am also in the process of learning assemler language for a custom made and programed fuel managment system/boost controler, i was thinking of a ATmega16 microprosesser, 32 i/o lines, advanced language, cheap price(5$ or so for the chip, 99$ for the programming board) anyways thats where i sit, and thanks to all,

methanol injection you mean? its used to cool the "charged" air down more then what the inter cooler (or in some case in place of an inter cooler) would do... also depending on the % of alcohol used will also act kind of as an octane booster if you will... just as an example and by no means accurate but say you put 91 octane gas in your tank and run pure methanol it would be like going with 94 octane gas ** again not accurate just a example** as well with the lower temp air going into your combustion chambers it will allow you to run slightly higher boost levels (again depends on what your using ) and get away with out getting "knock" or pre-detonation... which depending on the severity of it can cause such events like your engine $hitting your internals out on the pavement
so really what it does is cool the air down getting a more dense mass of air into the engine giving you more power and allowing you to creep the boost up slightly and as a kind of added benefit and personal experience it will steam clean your internals nice and clean.. which also prevents "hot spots" in the chambers which will also cause knocking

Why re-invent the wheel. It would take forever if you had to write all the fuel needs in assembly. Use something already written.
