MBC or just spring it?
Thursday, April 20, 2006 9:36 PM
Well i just got my car up and running last week....i have a Garrett T3/T04E with a Tial 38mm external wastegate......the gate is set at 4.5 -5 psi but, would llike to bring it up to about 8-9......i have been researching on some MBC's and heard about boost spikes.....Do boost spikes happen more frequently with Internal wastegates than external wastegates...or am i better off just puting a spring in it....On the other hand a MBC would be nice to adjust whenever i want or when i go to the dyno.......just looking for other opinions on this.....thanks

what would i be looking for in a MBC....? i read something about a ball and spring controllers...? just curious

I found some answers to this recently during my research on my turbo project. I'm no real expert as this is my first custom turbo project, but I do know that yes internaly gated turbos tend to suffer boost spikes more frequently than externally gated turbos. People tend to be a little happier with external ones if they have experience with both.

As for a mbc or an electric one.... I figure do it right the first time and just get an electric one so with a push of the button, you can turn up the boost. Cause you know your going to want to.....
Follow the post in this forum and search around and you'll find answers to your questions as I have been latley. Lots of good info floating around.

i'm no expert on boost controllers, but i've been looking at Hallman boost controllers and doing a little searching on them. they seem to be good quality MBC's and they offer an application where the knob to turn up the boost can be mounted in the car.

here's a link:

yes hallman boost xontrollers are among the best... usualy you only see boost spikes with electronic controllers...

I have the hallman in car MBC works like a charm never a boost spike...

mine is gated at 8.7 psi and then I used the mbc to get up to aboit 9.5 psi
