I was just wondering if any one could come up with a basic list of mods to run 20lbs of boost on a 2200. i kno boost is just a relative term. so relatively what would i need.
DRIVE HARD OR DONT DRIVE AT ALL!!!
Forged pistons, forged rods, heavy duty piston rings, all new bearings, ARP headstuds, Cometic headgasket, fuel pump, injectors, and t uning.
275hp & 306tq - 1999 2.2 ohv
13.2 @ 108 mph
-1996 2.4 liter + Turbo + Built motor + Torco + More boost = Lots o' Power
-2000 Mustang GT + 2004 Cobra motor, Whipple 2.3 supercharger,
built rear-end,Dodge Viper spec T56 6 speed, bolt-ons = wheelies at the track!!!!!
^^^These guys would know, especially Adler.
I would also like to suggest an early 2.2L (90-93) oil pump. It will give a little more volume, and should be added to any 2.2L/2200 build.
Tuning will be the key though. Nobody has proven that it is not possible to run 20 lbs on stock internals, so you never know, with the correct tuning...

well im already pushin 15lbs on a 60trim 42/48 turbo on stock internals, i dont think i want to push much more.
DRIVE HARD OR DONT DRIVE AT ALL!!!
Don't be scared. 2.2s are only about $400 from a junkyard.

the one thing im worried about is valve float. is the stock valvetrain capable of handleing that much boost. of course i would put at least a new oem valve train in if it could handle it.
DRIVE HARD OR DONT DRIVE AT ALL!!!
I ran 20-22ish psi on my 2200 with the stock valve springs that had around 90,000 miles on them. If there was valve float, I didnt notice it while driving and it didnt show up on the dyno.
If I had to do it all over again, I would have bought some stiffer valve springs just incase.

do u think a new oem valve train would b ok for 20psi. my goal for the engine is 20psi.
DRIVE HARD OR DONT DRIVE AT ALL!!!
what would the best piston rings b to use.
DRIVE HARD OR DONT DRIVE AT ALL!!!
The stock springs would probably be fine seeing how I didnt notice any problems.. But after I tore down that engine, I was told that it would have been a good idea if I had used stiffer valve springs when running that much boost.

Looking at the numbers, the OEM springs should not be able to handle 20+psi at higher rpm, but if Adler has done it, then you can't argue lol.
Adler, $400? You're getting ripped off,

yea u are i can get one around here for 150 then give them a core engine and get 50 bucks back
DRIVE HARD OR DONT DRIVE AT ALL!!!
I used Total Seal TS1 gapless rings in my 2200. I personally know of 3 people who have used Total Seal gapless rings in their turbo 2.4s and a turbo 3.1 V6 without any problems..

$400, ripped off? I am confused, what are you talking about?

Oh, nevermind.... I see.
I never had to buy a 2200 from a junkyard. Whenever I blow motors, I either just slap a new piston in there, or I always have a back up engine laying around.

Adler, i didn't see a size for my engine, 3.540, but i see they do custom stuff. Is that the way you went? And if you don't mind, how much would a 4 piston set cost?
when you all say higher RPM are we talking higher then stock?
stevefire wrote:when you all say higher RPM are we talking higher then stock?
I wasn't.

Are you talking about Venolia? If so, yes they do custom stuff. My set of pistons were a "custom" set. My set cost $350 ish over two years ago.

Actually, i was refering to the gapless rings. sorry, i should have been more clear. But wow, only $350 for a set of pistons. that's a good price.
And in your opinion should I go with the gapless rings or a set of the wiseco XX rings? which I already have in my posesion.
Here is a link to some info on the wiseco XX ones. pdf file:
link
But i was reading about the gapless ones, and if i'm going to be running high amounts of boost, the gapless ones sound like they would be better....Any one have experience using either?
I never noticed any problems with my gapless rings. Mike Karas (turbo 2.4), Curtis Walker (3.1 liter V6), and Aasyranth (turbo 2.4) all used the Total Seal gapless rings without any problems.
I dont have any experience with the Wiseco rings.

were can i get the gapless rings for a standard bore piston for my 2200. ill building my engine soon.
